Cadenza artwork to thread.

Michael F Gill, Wednesday, 11 July 2007 01:11 (eighteen years ago)

In my dreams this stuff is the dominant underground club techno style (and I am booked to dj it 6 nights a week)

Check some of the stuff on the F...U Fcom! Label: http://www.discogs.com/label/F...+U!+FCOM, especially the Djinxx stuff

Infiniti - Think Quick

blunt, Wednesday, 11 July 2007 06:08 (eighteen years ago)

Florid as in ostentatiously pretty or florid as in overblown? Some of the answers here fit both definitions.

sous les paves, Wednesday, 11 July 2007 06:51 (eighteen years ago)

this is lookin good so far! you can see what a fogey i am from my examples. tim, i was thinking more along the lines of ostentatiously pretty, but both really - kowalski for instance (especially his dj sets) can fit both, i think

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 11 July 2007 09:30 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah it was Kowalski primarily who had me a bit confused - I will come back with suggestions.

Tim F, Wednesday, 11 July 2007 11:17 (eighteen years ago)

also from septic cuts, "smokebelch II", although that's just barely techno

many many psych and goa trance acts could conceivably fall under this banner but that's trance, not techno, innit

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 11 July 2007 15:22 (eighteen years ago)

Tim!

Tracer Hand, Thursday, 12 July 2007 20:54 (eighteen years ago)

this is exactly what i've been looking for keep the answers coming

any suggestions of your own, glossolalia?

Vince Watson - Mystical Rhythm

resolved, Friday, 13 July 2007 16:17 (eighteen years ago)

there's a lot here i haven't heard! out of all these i like the juan atkins the best ("think quick"), it's so great. a lot of these are too prog house/trance for me, although they are very ornamented, etc. there's a common thread of menace and dread to a lot of these, i'm not sure why that would be the case.

Tracer Hand, Friday, 13 July 2007 16:21 (eighteen years ago)

some Luciano certainly, as well as a few tunes off the first UR album. I thought of Maurice Fulton, Dan Curtin too but it's more apparent when they hit downtempo mode. Then you'd have tons of stuff actually, from FSOL to Global Comm & back...

ken taylrr, Tuesday, 17 July 2007 20:49 (eighteen years ago)

well, it can be!

Tracer Hand, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 01:28 (eighteen years ago)

Robert Babicz - Sonntag

More golden sunshiney than florid, but either way ostentatiously pretty and in my opinion, wonderful.

mehlt, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 02:54 (eighteen years ago)

oh dear, so many tracks..

the table is the table, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 04:08 (eighteen years ago)

I was just thinking how the Syndeham remix of Rainbow Delta but Len Faki is like the fully blossomed version of the flower that is the original. Where the original is much more solid - still in it's bud if you will - packing in all the tension thats in in a flower and just revealing the tips of petals (not in a bad way). The buildup after 4 minutes in the remix sounds just like a flower blossoming looks.

The botanical implications are endless.

aqua regia - "new york city smile on me!"

Tracer Hand, Friday, 20 July 2007 11:29 (eighteen years ago)

I've been listening to a lot of Diego stuff today and it is so damn good. He should be way more popular but unfortunately he (shamelessly!) breaks the seeming 128bpm limit for popular techno music.

sous les paves, Saturday, 21 July 2007 23:38 (eighteen years ago)

Actually that's probably not the only reason but it is my own private axe to grind

six months pass...

I heard DJ Koze's Cicely not too long ago, and thought of this thread, it's certainly some of the prettiest music I've heard in a long time.
