because i don't really know anything beyond 'french kiss' or 'conversation', but those two are sick sick sick.
― haitch, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 03:40 (eighteen years ago)
His two LPs From the Mind Of Lil' Louis and Journey with... each have a number of nice tracks, but also a number of hip-house stinkers.
S : Clap Your Hands, French Kiss, Club Lonely, Blackout, I Called U and a few more.
― Michael Servetus, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 03:52 (eighteen years ago)
I'm sure I'm missing a bunch of tracks, though.
― Michael Servetus, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 03:53 (eighteen years ago)
Personally, French Kiss always struck me as over-rated. That orgasm breakdown just seems kinda gimmicky. BUT ... Club Lonely and Blackout are great. I Called U is tops too.

search: 7 days of peace, frequency, how i feel
― elan, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 04:09 (eighteen years ago)
I have really been digging the More Is Less mix of Music Saved My Life. The Music Saved My Life and Club Lonely 12"s have been getting a good chunk of play lately.
I can't hate French Kiss too much because it was one of those signature records that Derrick May ALWAYS dropped in Detroit back in the day. When I hear it I think of driving through Greektown listening to it on WJLB. Don't know why, but that is what I think of when I hear that track.
That being said, I know where there is a cheap used copy in pretty good shape and I have picked it up and put it back on probably six separate occasions. I never can bring myself to actually buy it.
― Display Name, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 04:29 (eighteen years ago)
Wait , don't get me wrong here ... I'm ALL FOR orgasms in the middle of tracks .. but why's homeboy gotta slow that shit down for like 3 minutes?! I mean, what the hell are you supposed to do when that joint gets played in the club?
On a sidenote, I always thought it would be HEE-larious if someone would come up with a male orgasm version of French Kiss.
Search out that shit and get back to me, ILM.
― Romeo Jones, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 04:46 (eighteen years ago)
Holmes was smart, he knew people would get tired from jacking their body to the house music all night long, French Kiss gives you the opportunity to recharge your batteries by grinding on a trashy broad for like three minutes straight.
― Display Name, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 04:50 (eighteen years ago)
PS I heard Oil Can Harry's has a fly ass hip house night where dudes dress up like Kid N' Play and do the cabbage patch to Fast Eddie.
― Display Name, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 04:53 (eighteen years ago)
In theory, you may be correct, Display Name, but in actuality .. nobody grinds trashy broads to the french kiss breakdown. They just stand there and look all dumb. Then some drunk guy goes "WOOOO" and people scratch themselves.
― Romeo Jones, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 05:15 (eighteen years ago)
SUBVERT THE FASCIST MALE GAZE PATRIARCHY PARADIGM OF ANTI-FELLOPIAN CONSUMER DEATH CULTURE!
MORE MALE ORGASMS IN HOUSE MUSIC ... NOW!
― Romeo Jones, Wednesday, 18 July 2007 05:18 (eighteen years ago)
I used to think that too, until I did my soul a favor and went to see Matthew Dear play Chic ballads on an acoustic guitar at a foam party.
Shit changed my life dog, for real.

also journey with the lonely is classic and has no hip-house tracks

"dooooo iiiiitt .... nyce and slooowwwwwww ...
more? ok more? ok more? ok more? ok more? ok"
― jaime, Saturday, 26 January 2008 19:08 (eighteen years ago)
quite often i think that if "french kiss" didn't have the orgasm and the slowdown it would be the greatest house/techno tune ever.
― or something, Saturday, 26 January 2008 19:21 (eighteen years ago)
you know, there are four other mixes of french kiss that don't slow down or have the orgasm.
― elan, Saturday, 26 January 2008 20:19 (eighteen years ago)
"nyce & slo" is excellent!
― blunt, Saturday, 26 January 2008 20:23 (eighteen years ago)
we should do a t/s on "from the mind of..." and "journey with..."
i spent YEARS looking for "journey with..." and i was well disappointed when i picked it up.
could we also do a s&d for tracks labeled "a little louis painting"?
― moonship journey to baja, Saturday, 26 January 2008 20:25 (eighteen years ago)
i think "from the mind of" is pretty much gold. how could you like "french kiss" better w/o the breakdown, though?? i always thought the one problem with "from the mind of" was the lack of breakdown on "french kiss"
― moonship journey to baja, Saturday, 26 January 2008 20:26 (eighteen years ago)
ha elan, you're right and i have them on the ffrr 12". french kiss ftw!xp search freedom but you knew that anyway and re the breakdown, i don't know but i think the groove itself is kind of house music 101 and, as was stated above, the breakdown does feel a bit gimmicky.
― or something, Saturday, 26 January 2008 20:29 (eighteen years ago)
Which versions are orgasm/slowdownless?
― mehlt, Sunday, 27 January 2008 00:45 (eighteen years ago)
http://www.discogs.com/release/76775
all of the mixes on this record except for the original underground mix lack the orgasm sounds and the breakdown.
― elan, Sunday, 27 January 2008 01:16 (eighteen years ago)
no wait that's not right
― elan, Sunday, 27 January 2008 01:17 (eighteen years ago)
you want these:
A2 French Kiss (Talkin' All That Jazz Mix) (4:14) A3 French Kiss (Short But Sweet Radio Vocal Mix) (4:08) B2 French Kiss (Cherry Talk Conversational Mix) (5:29)
― elan, Sunday, 27 January 2008 01:18 (eighteen years ago)
i would go with the "talkin' all that jazz mix" because it has a great jazz saxophone and piano.
― elan, Sunday, 27 January 2008 01:22 (eighteen years ago)
if you can't handle the "original underground mix", that is. prude.
― elan, Sunday, 27 January 2008 01:23 (eighteen years ago)
"frequency, how i feel
-- elan"
on the same 12" nonetheless, one of my favorite records:

both are beautiful.
"why'd u fall" is a killer too, ridiculous.

― deej, Sunday, 27 January 2008 02:18 (eighteen years ago)
I'm personally fine with the slowdown, it's just I've made certain vows against orgasm samples.
― mehlt, Sunday, 27 January 2008 02:28 (eighteen years ago)
someone has booted the 'i called u' 12" (with 'conversation', 'why'd u fall' and the rest)! YES I WILL ADD TO BASKET, THANKS.

Ya Kid K demands only that we get up, that we make her day, that we get on the dance floor because that's where the party is. Dancing to Technotronic, fans not only enjoy an excursion through the modern, urban world, they can send home postcards saying, ''Wish you were here!''

I like how seriously the writer takes the romantic dilemmas posed in house tracks. That seems kinda rare to me.
