whoa. the slits are opening. i have never been more psyched for a concert.

Speaking as an attendee this past weekend - dont' get too psyched - the band doesn't seem to be to in to it - I have a distinct feeling they'd rather be playing 'Sister' all the way through ... Although, 'the slits' opening - now you're on to something...

Hm. I think I'd rather watch them play Sister all the way through, too. Or Goo. Or EVOL... still..

I thought they sounded (and looked) into it. Well, Thurston did make that crack about "We're under 4 now" after they played "Kissability." But I figured that was just him being him. The performance itself was great -- Steve Shelley in particular was just a monster throughout.

I would go to this show* if a ticket happened to appear.
*which is four days after my birthday

the band doesn't seem to be to in to it
hasn't that pretty much been the case since at least 1998?

if my roommates girlfriend continues to be a psycho, i think we will have an extra ticket.

If things go that way, there could be a DVD-R full of classical MP3s in yr future, mein freund.

saw this in berkeley last night. it was great, but having no surprises in the set list really gives a distancing effect; very much felt like watching a recital of a "serious work" rather than a show. it's an important album and one I love but when put into this context it has a lot of baggage. I did wonder how long it took them to relearn some of those songs though. I'll say this, the encore was terrible in comparison (all songs from Rather Ripped; well Incinerate was really good but the others were rubbish).I owould have killed for them to throw in Tunic.

i was there too. i liked it, kinda shocked as i had no idea i was going (or that they were doing this) until a couple days ago. pleasantly surprised. the only song i thought was lackluster was RainKing. Hey Joni and Cross The Breeze were really, really solid. I saw Sonic Youth about 10 times between 1990 and 1995 (and also 1999 I think? at a festival in Berkeley, the day before they got all their gear stolen... was it ever recovered?) and this show was pretty epic.
After seeing the show, it made me realize that Daydream Nation is criminally underrated!
No wonder I didn't know any of the encore songs, I thought they were pretty and catchy.
Nice to see Mark Ibold outside of Great Jones too. He joined the band for the encore, another total surprise.

The current-stuff encores are nice, but I still think it'd be SUPER funny if they just stopped after "Rain King" and then came out and then played side four as, like, three separate encores.

was it ever recovered?
I don't think so ....
He joined the band for the encore
Ibold toured with em last year I think. or at least he played in their 2 brooklyn shows.

To be fair, he was in the Dustdevils who pretty much were a daydream nation cover band.
― Steve Shasta, Friday, 20 July 2007 17:32 (eighteen years ago)
really? I think most ppl rate it pretty highly. (excluding the "they've sucked since '85" crowd)

not according to the recent ILM polls conducted and comprised of faux-poppist obscurophilistic indie-guilters since 2002.
