britishes have garages?

Tim Ellison, Thursday, 19 July 2007 18:38 (eighteen years ago)

I'm going to go with "Louie Louie" though "You Really Got Me" was a really significant record as far as demonstrating how the British Invasion was this movement of real ballistics couched in this new, progressive, more feminine mod aesthetic.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Thursday, 19 July 2007 18:56 (eighteen years ago)

They go the Ministry of Youth Music and apply for a Socially Reponsible Performance ermit and then they take it to the State Rock Moves Adviser who stamps it and passes it on to the Offer for Fucking Mega-Legends who laminates it and puts it in the post, which then takes 3 months to arrive.

admrl, Thursday, 19 July 2007 18:56 (eighteen years ago)

gff, Thursday, 19 July 2007 18:58 (eighteen years ago)

I still think it's good, yes.

admrl, Thursday, 19 July 2007 18:58 (eighteen years ago)

anyway, my friends in bands when we were kids, they might practice in garages, or living rooms, or lofts. That's what I remember.

admrl, Thursday, 19 July 2007 19:01 (eighteen years ago)

Good music will always find a way. I've learnt that from reading magazines and listening to the radio.

admrl, Thursday, 19 July 2007 19:02 (eighteen years ago)

Good music wants to be free.

admrl, Thursday, 19 July 2007 19:04 (eighteen years ago)

I love "you really got me," but you try drinking a few pints and then playing "louie, louie" on high, without falling on your ass. Nope, it can't be done.

nicky lo-fi, Thursday, 19 July 2007 22:04 (eighteen years ago)

"Louie Louie"

gabbneb, Thursday, 19 July 2007 22:05 (eighteen years ago)

"You Really Got Me"

Curt1s Stephens, Friday, 20 July 2007 12:54 (eighteen years ago)

I have never had a garage

Louie Louie, easily

though, in my head, today, i have Suzy Creamcheese

Filey Camp, Friday, 20 July 2007 12:56 (eighteen years ago)

Uh, the Clash claimed they were a garage band from "Garageland" - that should settle it.

Myonga Vön Bontee, Friday, 20 July 2007 13:27 (eighteen years ago)

they weren't really though.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Friday, 20 July 2007 13:28 (eighteen years ago)

louie louie 4ever

and what, Friday, 20 July 2007 13:39 (eighteen years ago)

both obviously a+ jams, but "louie louie." "all day and all of the night" > "you really got me" anyway.

pretzel walrus, Friday, 20 July 2007 14:06 (eighteen years ago)

Pretty cool how both of those recordings (deathless classics, both) had obvious audible mistakes that were simply left uncorrected and released as they were.

"You Really Got Me" was the bigger and better influence on any number of punk & metal bands that followed - a nice tight performance. "Louie Louie" is a lurching drunken shambles, always in danger of falling apart completely, haphazardly recorded and featuring a drum performance that practically turns avant-garde during the guitar solo.

"Louie Louie" for me.

(I've taken for granted that it's the specific Kinks and Kingsmen hits that are fighting it out here.)

Myonga Vön Bontee, Friday, 20 July 2007 14:26 (eighteen years ago)

Louie Louie any day of the week.

Matt DC, Friday, 20 July 2007 14:36 (eighteen years ago)

Pretzel Walrus OTM re: all day and all of the night.

I dunno though, You Really Got Me is ALSO a lurching drunken shambles, always in danger of falling apart completely, yet somehow they hold it together, brilliantly inept solo and everything. It's impossible to pick one over the other.

Colonel Poo, Friday, 20 July 2007 14:41 (eighteen years ago)

I'd have to go with You Really Got Me. But Louie Louie does always bring back fond memories of John Belushi in a toga.

duestown, Friday, 20 July 2007 14:46 (eighteen years ago)

"you really got me."

tho "i'm henry viii i am" is better than either.

J.D., Friday, 20 July 2007 22:59 (eighteen years ago)

I hate "Louie Louie."
