eh, a decent rock critic.

andi, Saturday, 21 July 2007 04:07 (eighteen years ago)

Not much better than that.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 21 July 2007 04:08 (eighteen years ago)

Prone to stock phrases and sweeping pronouncements, highly biased towards certain kinds of small subcultures while ignoring the larger picture...

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 21 July 2007 04:09 (eighteen years ago)

just kidding! great rock critic. i don't care if this has been done, whateves. ned has good taste, and seems like a really cool duders. rah!

andi, Saturday, 21 July 2007 04:09 (eighteen years ago)

Ned, I was kidding! You're my favorite rock critic (it's 2007 and I'm 21). Think about that. . . Just wanted to say thanks!

andi, Saturday, 21 July 2007 04:10 (eighteen years ago)

I'm not kidding either!

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 21 July 2007 04:11 (eighteen years ago)

someone has to be kidding.

funny farm, Saturday, 21 July 2007 04:12 (eighteen years ago)

um. i just like ned's opinions. i'll be back later with more kind words.

andi, Saturday, 21 July 2007 04:14 (eighteen years ago)

Ned's reviews are "particularly fine"

Michael F Gill, Saturday, 21 July 2007 04:25 (eighteen years ago)

Absolutely. Painfully so.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 21 July 2007 04:29 (eighteen years ago)

(And seriously speaking, thank you Andi.)

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 21 July 2007 04:30 (eighteen years ago)

Long live Lord Raggett! May his AMG reviews and 136 List survive any online terrorism that should wipe out the internet!

Seriously, Ned, everyone would love to see you do something equivalent for the 1980s like you did for the 1990s with that albums list. (I can only imagine how long it took you to do the first, but still, it could be a condensed version where you just name the albums and write a brief, brief blurb.) Do it for the children.

Cunga, Saturday, 21 July 2007 04:49 (eighteen years ago)

The kids'll have their own opinions. Outside of Jackin' Pop, say, I have no inclination to create ranked lists at this point in time and perhaps never again. I really think the listmaking impulse is fairly pernicious now in terms of a truly flexible and process-based appreciation of music, but that's just me.

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 21 July 2007 05:10 (eighteen years ago)

Ned Raggett isn't for the children.

marmotwolof, Saturday, 21 July 2007 05:17 (eighteen years ago)

R.I.P. children

Ned Raggett, Saturday, 21 July 2007 05:35 (eighteen years ago)

I really think the listmaking impulse is fairly pernicious now in terms of a truly flexible and process-based appreciation of music, but that's just me.

I understand, and I think there's truth that lists are 97% silly but lists such as that one are great because it unearthed a lot of great, obscure releases. If lists be the means to that end they will have my vote every November.

Cunga, Saturday, 21 July 2007 05:46 (eighteen years ago)

Ned Raggett once bedded fifteen women in one night. True Fact. And impregnated eight of them. And all eight babies were born with shoulder-length hair.

Ned is a really good guy. Who should come up to Seattle more often.

If Timi Yuro would be still alive, most other singers could shut up, Sunday, 22 July 2007 02:16 (eighteen years ago)

It'll happen.

^^^^This.

The Reverend, Sunday, 22 July 2007 07:24 (eighteen years ago)

Ned and I have unwittingly crossed e-paths repeatedly. We were on the 4AD, Catherine Wheel and Kitchens Of Distinction lists in the mid-90s. He appears in other lists of bands I like - Ned's Atomic Dustbin, TMBG, Stiff Little Fingers. We were on an e-mail sent out to a handful of people who ordered Cud's unreleased _Donkey With A Fez_ in 2002. We were on the Chameleons mailing list together for years, probably had some discussions there. We probably know some of the same people via these lists. It's a small world when you like music outside the mainstream.

He always seemed like a good bloke, so here's to Ned. And may every deserving ILMer have a thread dedicated to them for their 15 minutes of fame.

always pleased when I run across one of Ned's AMG entries. Although it's infinitely useful and well done overall, a little levity never hurts. And I'm pretty sure I've chuckled at more than one of Ned's reviews.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 30 July 2007 20:36 (eighteen years ago)

one of the Terrastocks. and, well, now i have to admit that the humor and humility with which you just responded made me LOL for reals and reconsider my stance. so maybe i'm not the only sane person in the ILXverse but, in fact, a lone crazy person immune whose illness makes him unfortunately immune to your charms.

Mr. Hal Jam, Monday, 30 July 2007 20:44 (eighteen years ago)

Nah, just part of being human, I'd figure; not everyone can get along no matter how much it might seem like they might, and I've been plenty guilty of ignoring or just missing signs that I'm irritating people more than anything else. My harshest critic is me and there's plenty I always put under my own personal microscope and look at askance (and I know some close friends are frustrated by that, so hey). To heck with being a lone crazy person, yer just honest! Nothing wrong with that.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 30 July 2007 20:49 (eighteen years ago)

Ned, did you go to a Terrastock on the east coast? Joe Turner (of Abunai) organized many of them; I've known him since high school.

ned let me and three of my friends stay in his garage for a few nights in the summer of 99. a year later we visited him again and he used this new contraption he had just purchased called a cd burner to copy any cds from his vast collection that we desired. he even mailed them to us.

only drawback: he threw in a momus cd.

Ned, why does everyone feel like they have to address you with your name (Ned), even when it is obvious they are saying something to you, Ned? I think it is because everyone feels excited that they are interacting with the famous Ned, Ned.

it seems disrespectful to address him as Ned (no surname) due to the risk of confusing him with Ned the Synthetics Phonics Dog.
