I bought this Now for Macy Gray and Train. I remember it for Aaliyah.

Tape Store, Sunday, 22 July 2007 01:58 (eighteen years ago)

WTF?!?!?!

Tape Store, Sunday, 22 July 2007 02:02 (eighteen years ago)

WTF?!?!?!

Fixed.

MRZBW, Sunday, 22 July 2007 02:07 (eighteen years ago)

THX!

Tape Store, Sunday, 22 July 2007 02:14 (eighteen years ago)

Did Smash Mouth have some kind of cross-promotion deal with the NOW people? I don't even remember that song at all.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 22 July 2007 03:21 (eighteen years ago)

hang on wasn't the last one of these the shittiest thing ever? and this is...there's crap, but the high points are many and v high indeed.

even so, aaliyah should walk it.

lex pretend, Sunday, 22 July 2007 04:41 (eighteen years ago)

"i wanna know"'s my jam.
this is fucking tough though... way too many memories from like 6th grade.

Jordan Sargent, Sunday, 22 July 2007 04:49 (eighteen years ago)

1. Aaliyah : "Try Again"
2. blink-182 : "All the Small Things"
3. Smash Mouth : "Then The Morning Comes"
4. Montell Jordan : "Get It on Tonite"
5. Backstreet Boys : "Larger Than Life"

I'm pretty sure I had the CD single of "Get It On Tonite". I hated "Try Again" at the time for who knows what reason. I can't believe I've put the Backstreets in my top five twice in a row. "I'm Blue" is quite possibly the worst song I've ever heard.

The Reverend, Sunday, 22 July 2007 08:12 (eighteen years ago)

Still a dreadful compilation from a dreadful year, which was even worse in the US as the best stuff from Europe mostly didn't make it there.

Voted for "(You Drive Me) Crazy", which is one of Max Martin's better moments. Particularly the hit remix.

Geir Hongro, Sunday, 22 July 2007 12:10 (eighteen years ago)

Of the songs I remember, I'm stuck between Backstreet and Blink.

da croupier, Sunday, 22 July 2007 14:40 (eighteen years ago)

Remember what happened on the last thread when you didn't vote LB hehe

Herman G. Neuname, Sunday, 22 July 2007 14:43 (eighteen years ago)

blink-182

stephen, Sunday, 22 July 2007 19:14 (eighteen years ago)

FWIW, I prefer all these to "All the Small Things":
Britney Spears : "(You Drive Me) Crazy"
Joe : "I Wanna Know"
Aaliyah : "Try Again"
Montell Jordan : "Get It on Tonite"
Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals : "Steal My Kisses"
Train : "Meet Virginia"
Macy Gray : "I Try"
Hanson : "This Time Around"

Tape Store, Sunday, 22 July 2007 19:24 (eighteen years ago)

"all the small things" is probably one of my two or three least blink singles. as tape store points out, there at least 8 better songs here than that (though not necessarily the ones he lists).

Jordan Sargent, Sunday, 22 July 2007 22:10 (eighteen years ago)

least favorite*

Jordan Sargent, Sunday, 22 July 2007 22:10 (eighteen years ago)

Blink 182 is too early. Punkpop became a lot more fun when the likes of Pink and Avril Lavigne added powerpop elements and production values to the genre.

Geir Hongro, Sunday, 22 July 2007 22:26 (eighteen years ago)

Although I didn't play it much at the time I heard "This Time Around" in a store recently and was pleasantly surprised.

Cunga, Sunday, 22 July 2007 22:35 (eighteen years ago)

The Stop Remix of "Crazy" isn't the version on this, which I always thought was really bizarre. So "It Feels So Good" wins by a hair.

Hanson was always great. I never heard anything of Hanson's after "This Time Around," but everything from their first album was incredibly good.

musically, Sunday, 22 July 2007 22:59 (eighteen years ago)

Eiffel 65 easily

Curt1s Stephens, Monday, 23 July 2007 00:57 (eighteen years ago)

I don't know how anyone can prefer "Meet Virginia" to anything.

da croupier, Monday, 23 July 2007 01:02 (eighteen years ago)

I never heard anything of Hanson's after "This Time Around,"

S: "Lost without each other", power pop song of the millenium.
I don't remember these song names too good so i voted Marc Anthony. he had much better singles by that time though I think.

tremendoid, Monday, 23 July 2007 01:17 (eighteen years ago)

having a hard time between Macy Gray and Blink-182 (only song of each of their's that I know).

Steve Shasta, Monday, 23 July 2007 01:23 (eighteen years ago)

I don't know how anyone can prefer "Meet Virginia" to anything.

^^ OTM

Curt1s Stephens, Monday, 23 July 2007 01:25 (eighteen years ago)

"Waiting for Tonight" is my favorite J-Lo song.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Monday, 23 July 2007 01:26 (eighteen years ago)

SRY GUYS: Confused "Meet Virginia" with "Drops of Jupiter" (which has pretty strings)

"Meet Virginia" has a reallllly terrible chorus, but the verses are kinda catchy.

Tape Store, Monday, 23 July 2007 01:34 (eighteen years ago)

i like 5 or 6 of these, but 'try again' is so many leagues better than any of the rest that it don't hardly seem fair.

tipsy mothra, Monday, 23 July 2007 03:46 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Thursday, 26 July 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

Aaliyah and basically everything she's done is terribly overrated, although "Are You That Somebody" was excellent, and her cover of "Got To Give It Up" was surprisingly non-atrocious (thanks in no small part to Slick Rick).

musically, Friday, 27 July 2007 17:55 (eighteen years ago)

I disagree with every single thing you say in your post.

The Reverend, Friday, 27 July 2007 18:02 (eighteen years ago)

But really, Slick Rick totally ruins the "GTGIU" cover. I don't think I've heard less inspired rapping in my life.

The Reverend, Friday, 27 July 2007 18:04 (eighteen years ago)

tough but i'll go w/"candy"

artdamages, Friday, 27 July 2007 18:10 (eighteen years ago)

Last week, I overheard two hipster girls talking in bemused tones about Mandy's new singer/songwriter direction and an upcoming Mandy Moore concert opened by Paula Cole. Sez one, "I'm should go in there and yell 'PLAY CANDY!'" Sez the other, "'PLAY CANDY!' is the new 'PLAY FREEBIRD!'" I had a very difficult time stifling my laughter.

The Reverend, Friday, 27 July 2007 18:15 (eighteen years ago)

"I should go in there...", etc.

The Reverend, Friday, 27 July 2007 18:15 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Friday, 27 July 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

Hardly surprising.

And even I am able to see the obvious good things about "Try Again". Brilliant use of "old fashioned-sounding" synths on that one, even though I preferred Madonna's more "overall old-fashioned" electro style from that same era.

Geir Hongro, Friday, 27 July 2007 23:04 (eighteen years ago)

I have never heard Train.

Herman G. Neuname, Friday, 27 July 2007 23:10 (eighteen years ago)

I have a slight inkling that those who voted for "Meet Virginia" here voted for 'Second Coming' in the AMG Best of Britpop poll.

musically, Friday, 27 July 2007 23:37 (eighteen years ago)

I have a slight inkling they would have voted for HITLER

da croupier, Friday, 27 July 2007 23:58 (eighteen years ago)

or at least Lyndon LaRouche.

da croupier, Friday, 27 July 2007 23:58 (eighteen years ago)

I believe Kirsten Dunst was unrecognizable in the Savage Garden video.

Cunga, Saturday, 28 July 2007 04:06 (eighteen years ago)

Aaliyah and basically everything she's done is terribly overrated, although "Are You That Somebody" was excellent, and her cover of "Got To Give It Up" was surprisingly non-atrocious (thanks in no small part to Slick Rick).

I want to cry. SOOOOOOOOO WRONG.

Tape Store, Saturday, 28 July 2007 04:32 (eighteen years ago)

WTF? Meet Virginia?!?!? Why does no one else i.d. this as a slight shock?

billstevejim, Monday, 30 July 2007 18:08 (eighteen years ago)
