the lady does get around, doesn't she? at least she's got got taste in men -- though she knows Elvis C is a jealous man so she added an extra "L" when she was messing around with Black Francis. though by the time she took up with neil halstead, she apparently stopped caring & had picked up some bad habits while dropping that extra "L".

Hehe. But srsly that Slowdive song is xtra sexy.

Alison I'll drink your wine
And wear your clothes when we're both high
Alison I think we're drowning
But she laughs, and tells me it's just fine
I guess she's out there somewhere...

I believe the Pixies tune is about a male jazz performer, but fuck if I know.

Elvis wins.

Pixies for me.

zeus, Sunday, 22 July 2007 19:24 (eighteen years ago)

the Pixies song isn't bad (and anyway, Bossanova happens to be my fav. album of theirs) but not a patch on the other two - and while Alison is undoubtedly one of Costello's best early songs, and the best of the three from a pure songwriting standpoint, but my personal attachment to Slowdive is too great not to vote for that one :/

You forgot the Lemonheads!

Also Smudge, with the same Alison:

"Alison tells me she's not sure if what's she's got contagious...
...doesn't know what to do /
she'll keep on getting on top of this thing cos she can't get on top of you"

Slowdive's "Alison" is one of the best songs I've ever heard.

Woohoo Slowdive!

ILM is great for helping me decide what to listen to. Pulled out _Souvlaki_ today and it was perfect, even dozed off a bit while listening.

sixteen years pass...

Listening to the acoustic disc of Bay's 2cd 1995 _Alison Rae_. Jason Taylor with Aidan Moffat drumming. Happy that someone recommended them back in the day, as it's sad, lovely music that still gets play. The acoustic disc ends with a nice Nick Drake "Which Will" cover.
