I haven't seen it. I don't get to the movies often, and if/when I do, it certainly wouldn't be piffle like this. But a friend of mine just saw it, and e-mailed me asking if I knew what "Salt'n'Pepa-ish hip hop track" played during the opening of the movie. It ain't on IMDB. I know someone out there in ILX land knows.

Anyone?

From wikipedia: "The popular musician Dave Matthews appears as an overtly homosexual salesman mid-way through the movie."

"The gay subject matter may have turned off filmgoers 'at the outer edges' of Sandler's fan base, one Universal executive acknowledged."

That movie would be awesome if they actually fell in love by the end, and there was a slow, steamy makeout scene.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Monday, 23 July 2007 12:38 (eighteen years ago)

As in, "I love that guy, but just not enough to see him pretend to be gay"? x-post

Erroneous Botch, Monday, 23 July 2007 12:39 (eighteen years ago)

hahaha.

That's what blows my mind. The movie only succeeds by playing to America's homophobia.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Monday, 23 July 2007 12:42 (eighteen years ago)

the voice review is hells funny. "this sodomite had a gay old time."

I had a really hard time figuring out how serious he was in that review.

"I mean, I'm homophobic and all, don't get me wrong. But seeing someone pretend to be someone pretending to be gay sounds pretty gay to me"

Also, select theaters have dicks in the seats.

Seriously, though -- anyone know which song we're talking about?

Alex in NYC, Monday, 23 July 2007 14:19 (eighteen years ago)

Alex - According to Hollywood.com, Fannypack is credited as one of the song performers for this movie. Might be what you're looking for.

Here's a link to the credit info:Chuck and Larry

I'm kinda nonplussed by this movie, because (and in posting this, I out myself as someone who saw an Adam Sandler movie in theaters) Big Daddy was pretty evenhanded and positive where its gay characters were concerned. Two of Sandler's character's college roommates were portrayed as being in a gay relationship, and when another character expresses discomfort with their gayness, Sandler asks him, "So, what time do you have to be at your Klan rally?" or something similar. And that was the extent of it; the characters are introduced as gay, and then the issue is dropped. So it's a little weird that this movie seems to dive headlong into the screaming-queen stereotypes.

Personally, I think this would have been even worse, in its way...

Did we figure this out?

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 19:38 (eighteen years ago)

having not heard the song, my guess is this --> Fannypack, Song Performer (“Seven One Eight”)

http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1809761688/cast

oh you were the one that suggested Fannypack in first place. "Salt N Pepa-ish" seems to fit.

dmr, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 19:46 (eighteen years ago)

I've never actually heard Fannypack. I remember some small hullabaloo about them a few years ago and thought the term "old school" was bandied about, so I guessed.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 21:33 (eighteen years ago)

they (are trying to) sound like L'Trimm

dmr, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 21:36 (eighteen years ago)

Your "friend" emails you, who clearly "would not see a movie like this", to ask what song plays in the opening credits. Right...
