ghostface/kanye/ne-yo- back like that remix
no. Kanye's verse adds nothing to the theme of romantic aggrievance ("Hello folks, sorry I can't put my whole ass into this, but I'm in Japan, I'm famous don't you know. That's your boy, Kanye") and just distracts from the tone of the record. Barely passable as a B-side, completely clogs up the end of More Fish.

Could someone more familiar with the genre explain when exactly a "remix", in hiphop context, came to just mean an additional, usually forgetable verse by someone else over the exact same track with little if any variation? That being said, both the Pete Rock remixed versions of "Jump Around" by House of Pain and "Slow Down" by Brand Nubian were much better than the originals.

― P'zone, Wednesday, 25 July 2007 23:37 (eighteen years ago)
never seen a video but the Native Tongues Decision Version from the 12" pwns, and possibly invented bringing all your mates in for new verses as the definition of a remix, just like the album invented filling your LP with skits.
also it is very stupid that this remix isn't on the bonus disc with the reissue.
― energy flash gordon, Thursday, 26 July 2007 00:26 (eighteen years ago)
I am kind of surprised nobody has mentioned "Ignition" but I 100% prefer the original to the admittedly great yet inferior remix.
― Steve Shasta, Thursday, 26 July 2007 00:47 (eighteen years ago)
to be honest i don't think many people even associate the ignition remix as the remix. was the original even a single??

"plz return to '02 era ilx"
My search function is limited here. Can you give me a summary?
and I believe the video version of 'Buddy" is the Native Tongues remix but don't quote me on that.
Some others;
Jay Z - In My Lifetime Remix LL Cool J - Jingling Baby Remix Brand Nubian - Punks Jump Up To Get Beat Down Remix (Both of them really) ATCQ - Can I Kick It (whichever version they used for the video) Craig Mack - Flava in Ya Ear Remix Beastie Boys - Sure Shot Remix Black Sheep - The Choice is Yours Remix Public Enemy - How To Kill A Radio Consultant Remix Jeru the Damaja - Playin Yaself Remix
What about 'R&B' songs that get 'Rap Remixed' or is that a separate topic.
― DustinR, Thursday, 26 July 2007 15:31 (eighteen years ago)
Beastie Boys - Sure Shot Remix
Which one? Large Pro, Mario C, European B-Boy?

This is pretty much universal thought on the subject. It's regarded to be one of the best remixes ever....
All of which I never understood because the original "Shut Em Down" is so heavy and singular and apocalyptic--classick Bomb Squad, almost quasi-industrial, a pre-cursor to Dalek and El-P and Techno Animal. Easily the ugliest, nastiest P.E. beat ever, save the bridge of "By The Time I Get To Arizona." I totally love it!
