haha - beaten to the punch by an offhand comment in this post... Jeffrey Lewis - Williamsburg Will Oldham Horror

chr1sb0y, Thursday, 26 July 2007 14:00 (eighteen years ago)

Best thing Oldham's done in years!

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 26 July 2007 14:01 (eighteen years ago)

I don't really understand... is this supposed to be funny or something?

The Brainwasher, Thursday, 26 July 2007 14:01 (eighteen years ago)

x-post -- later, the response to that comment:

Best part: "You can't tell me NOTHIN'" - to a cow.

humansuit, Thursday, 26 July 2007 15:41 (eighteen years ago)

also "how to stay faithful in a room full of hoes" while gesturing to a bunch of cows!

awesome.

M@tt He1ges0n, Thursday, 26 July 2007 16:09 (eighteen years ago)

O I missed that one, yeah you win. So good.

humansuit, Thursday, 26 July 2007 16:12 (eighteen years ago)

I find his lip-syncing strangely compelling. I can't even identify the aspect that makes it "good acting" but it definitely is.

Erroneous Botch, Thursday, 26 July 2007 17:33 (eighteen years ago)

I think Kanye might be taking his love for Fiona Apple a little too far if he's not only stealing her producer but her videos as well (the last time Zach Galifianakis did this was for a Fiona Apple video. It was funny but not as funny as this).

Roz, Thursday, 26 July 2007 18:23 (eighteen years ago)

I'm lukewarm on the new Kanye stuff but I unashamedly love the hell out of this. Especially the Oldham "HAHA!"

Telephone thing, Thursday, 26 July 2007 18:36 (eighteen years ago)

I like the slightly backlit in a dark room profile shots where Oldham turns away from the camera presumably to tear up.

Jena, Thursday, 26 July 2007 18:41 (eighteen years ago)

this is really wonderful. humansuit, i found it very funny. beautifully filmed too.

jed_, Thursday, 26 July 2007 18:43 (eighteen years ago)

" don't ever fix ya lips like collagen,
say something, then end up apologin' "

...followed by failed spit of tabbaco juice....

m0stlyClean, Thursday, 26 July 2007 19:19 (eighteen years ago)

damn thats a dope video.

chaki, Thursday, 26 July 2007 20:54 (eighteen years ago)

You know that is really insightful, that thing about Fiona Apple. Perhaps this is Kanye's love letter to her - I wouldn't be surprised.

Ah Jed, thanks. Someone is actually not calling for my banishment for once!

humansuit, Thursday, 26 July 2007 22:17 (eighteen years ago)

is this on youtube yet? this player's acting wonky for me.

marmotwolof, Thursday, 26 July 2007 22:28 (eighteen years ago)

Ban humansuit.

Actually, I'm confused. Which one is Oldham and which one is Galifinakis?

The Reverend, Thursday, 26 July 2007 22:57 (eighteen years ago)

this is great

river wolf, Thursday, 26 July 2007 23:53 (eighteen years ago)

Galifinakis is the one with the big beard.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Thursday, 26 July 2007 23:55 (eighteen years ago)

you know, the one that is obviously not will oldham

river wolf, Thursday, 26 July 2007 23:56 (eighteen years ago)

I dunno. I wasn't familiar with either beforehand, and GIS reveals them to be remarkably similar-looking.

The Reverend, Friday, 27 July 2007 00:02 (eighteen years ago)

Is that Travis and Jonathan dancing with the cloggers? They are the guys who do Red State Up-date.

leavethecapital, Friday, 27 July 2007 00:02 (eighteen years ago)

I like the idea that Will Oldham is somehow universally known. It's almost quaint.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 27 July 2007 00:03 (eighteen years ago)

oldham is bald and skinny, zach is not bald and is fat

marmotwolof, Friday, 27 July 2007 00:43 (eighteen years ago)

This is so fucking great.

John Justen, Friday, 27 July 2007 00:44 (eighteen years ago)

Honestly I just think it needs more cowbell.

humansuit, Friday, 27 July 2007 00:54 (eighteen years ago)

omg this is awesome

Curt1s Stephens, Friday, 27 July 2007 01:28 (eighteen years ago)

Gold! I'd spit my cup of tea all over the keyboard except I don't want to get it dirty.

badg, Friday, 27 July 2007 02:24 (eighteen years ago)

Well, you need to spit it out and let it dribble into a cornfield. For the purists.

humansuit, Friday, 27 July 2007 03:17 (eighteen years ago)

My faith in Kanye is totally renewed.

Hillary Brown, Friday, 27 July 2007 13:06 (eighteen years ago)

I've liked Galifianakis since that weird show he had on VH1, but I've kinda gone off him since that seriously awful live DVD he put out a few months ago. This is cute, but it really doesn't redeem "Can't Tell Me Nothin'," which might be one of the worst things Kanye's ever done.

Alex in Baltimore, Friday, 27 July 2007 13:30 (eighteen years ago)

lol fanboy

and what, Friday, 27 July 2007 13:44 (eighteen years ago)

Hey, I only say "might" because I am a fanboy who's heard a lot of his crappy early mixtape freestyles. If I only knew his album tracks I'd say for certain that "Can't Tell Me Nothin'" is the worst Kanye song ever.

Alex in Baltimore, Friday, 27 July 2007 15:59 (eighteen years ago)

i enjoyed this until i turned the music on

gabbneb, Friday, 27 July 2007 15:59 (eighteen years ago)

you enjoyed watching a guy silently mouthing words?

s1ocki, Friday, 27 July 2007 16:05 (eighteen years ago)

i sort of wish they'd played this a little straighter. it is funny but it gets a bit too close to "amish paradise" territory for me to love it.

the clogging are pretty wierd

gff, Friday, 27 July 2007 16:14 (eighteen years ago)

clogging is, cloggers are, take your pick

gff, Friday, 27 July 2007 16:14 (eighteen years ago)

really good that they didn't bust out the hiphop hand gestures, that would have ruined it....

m0stlyClean, Friday, 27 July 2007 18:20 (eighteen years ago)

But it does play it straight - hip hop videos are parodies of themselves, know what I mean?
