I mostly preferred the "Now" series, mostly because I like EMI/Virgin's artist rooster better than the more American-oriented Sony/BMG/Warner lineup.

But there's no denying the impressiveness of the track listing on this first "Hits Album" from 1984.

And voted for "Thriller" because it's the best thing Jackson ever did.

I had this on casette; the soundtrack to my Christmas '84.

And voted for "Careless Whisper" because it's the best thing Michael ever did.

"I Feel or You" and "Each and Everyone" also worthy of winning.

So do I. Aren't poll thread fun and informative?

ailsa, Friday, 27 July 2007 15:37 (eighteen years ago)

At the time, my favourite was Big in Japan. Close-run thing between Purple Rain or I Feel For You now though.

ailsa, Friday, 27 July 2007 15:38 (eighteen years ago)

I thought about voting for "Big In Japan" too, but there are stronger tracks on the "Forever Young" album.

Geir Hongro, Friday, 27 July 2007 20:03 (eighteen years ago)

Aye, but we're not polling that, are we? How fucking complicated can this shite be?

ailsa, Friday, 27 July 2007 21:08 (eighteen years ago)

No, we aren't.

Geir Hongro, Friday, 27 July 2007 22:09 (eighteen years ago)

despite a good tracklist "Lost in Music" still wins by a million and a bit miles.

"Some Guys Have All The Luck" by far - certainly my favorite Rod track, the only competition on here is "Thriller" and I'm rooting for the underdog.

Doctor Casino, Friday, 27 July 2007 23:34 (eighteen years ago)

i'm amazed actually that ANYONE could think Lost in music wasn't the best song on this list.

jed_, Friday, 27 July 2007 23:39 (eighteen years ago)

I loved this album at the time. Played it and played it and played it some more. All these songs sounded exciting to a 10 year old. 'cept maybe the Jacksons and Sade, which still sound dull.

Lost in Music, by a nose from Purple Rain. Although I think when I got it my fave was the Meatloaf one.

From memory I preferred Hits 2. Don't know about now though,

Herman G. Neuname, Thursday, 2 August 2007 23:10 (eighteen years ago)

The best synth theme ever wins. There are still better songs on the album though.
