I first heard of them on the Italo thread, and while Disco Band is kickass, Plus Plus and Take Me Up are fantastic. The latter makes me think that John Hughes should make another teen movie just to include this on the soundtrack.
Also, considering there isn't even a wikipedia page for them, I figure they at least deserve their own thread here.
If that's okay.
Thanks!

I've heard exactly one Scotch song, "Penguin's Invasion" off the excellent 2006 italo compilation I Robots. It's a great track, and holds up fairly well alongside some of the other standout songs on the comp, especially Charlie's "Spacer Woman" and Alexander Robotnick's "Dance Boy Dance".

Oh yeah, I got that! It is so good I want to kill myself! The Sun La Shan song is amazing. It sounds like hot car bonnets.
One thing about the whole Italo thing is, I have no real picture of the original scene, does anyone know as well of any good documentaries or anything that focus on it for just a short while, or any good photos or anything documenting the period. I love quite a lot of this stuff, and I have this friend from Finland who is mad for it, but I have no set of images to go with it in my head.
Maybe it's just as well(?).

"Take Me Up" was a great 1984-85 hit. By which time they had become a group with a singer.

And well it should have been! That bassline is neat. Its like a trampoline, it just moves enough to make his vocal line bounce.

Yep, same here, minus the friend from Finland part. I am going to search for "italo disco" on netflix...
Top results: Outlaw Star series, volumes 1-3, "Gene Starwind and his partner Jim Hawking run a small business on the backwater planet of Centinel 3. But all that changes the day that Hilda hires them for a bodyguard job. Now, thrust into a mystery they don't fully understand, they're on the run from the cops, the pirates, an angry alien and a mysterious assassin!"
Hmm. Anyone have any better suggestions?

Also, that Italo wikipedia page is impossible to read.

disco band and penguin's invasion are two of my favorite italo jams but i really dont know anything else about them

A nice person from soulseek who has about 150 tracks by them is letting me have a few, they are all different versions of the same eight or so songs. Or the same songs on different compilations. Seriously though, you should download Plus Plus if you haven't already heard it. It is sooo good.

Google image search for Italo is hilariously irrelevant.

Okay this extended mix of Disco Band, while barely extended at all, is so much better than the original.

try discopia for more writing stuff about it.
also, if you want mixes, search daniele baldelli. fucking sick shit, especially the Etno Cosmic mix.

"Mirage" is a stone-cold classic.

I'd rather it was their last decent single. "Money Runner" from 1987 was absolutely awful.

No it fucking isn't!

Anyway, I'm wrecked! I hope somebody's hooked this thread up with some kickass shit by the time I check it. 'Night all.

There wasn't so much of a scene as an entire industry that spanned over 10 years. Trying to find any simple uniform sense of what it's about is impossible. And as cool as it is, Baldelli and the Cosmic stuff is on a completely different spectrum as something like Scotch. Meanwhile, Scotch ranges from the cool space italo side of things to the later big pop era, 2 sides that don't necesssarily apeal to the same people at the same time for the same reasons.
If you want more about italo, listen to:
http://www.cybernetic-broadcasting.net
and search and revive old ilx threads where italo's discussed quite a bit.
