I've heard about 4 or 5 songs by these guys now and I must say they are undeniably good, despite all my cynicism about new music. This is supposed to be the board with all the music writers on it. How come you folks didn't catch onto this one before I did? Okay, so the Stranger seemed to...but other than that?
Finally a truly more-than-adequate new band comes along and there's no thread here yet? Are you guys asleep at the switch or what?

I really liked Computer Camp Love when I heard it about a year ago. Now I'm into Datashat now foo'! Their or his or her 'The Message' cover is great! Can't speak for anyone else though.

I heard them do a KEXP live set earlier this week and was pretty impressed, especially with "Computer Camp Love" and "I Used to Dance with My Daddy".

I don't know what to think about this album. I initially thought 'Fa-Fa-Fa' was a Talking Heads cover (maybe it is?)

ambivalent to them overall, but "I Used to Dance With My Daddy" is one of the best songs of the last five years.

Somehow all their songs start out really annoyingly before barely redeeming themselves with a cool chorus or a nice bridge.

so these guys are involved with the new Annie album i see. such detail made me pick up the datarock album from the clearout sale that zavvi are having for a couple of quid. a result i'd say, as this is like the second album that clor never made.

a reasonable spot, mark! i was just thinking about clor last night. did some of them join hot chip or am i going mad? loved that first album anyhoo.

These guys are great. I guess most reviewers didn't really think so but their new album (Red) is really good. It's basically New Wave-inspired party music but it's pretty awesome. See them live if you can. They really get the crowd involved and are just really about getting everyone dancing and singing along. Also Fredrik is a really fun dude to hang around, he invited my buddy and I to the afterparty and it was a blast. There are a lot of bands like this out there but songwriting wise I think Datarock is one of the best.
Apparently they are putting out a "single" called "Catcher in the Rye" in March on a USB stick with 105 bonus tracks, 20 music videos, and an hour-long concert...whoa. In general nearly every one of their songs is good to some degree so I'm really excited about this.

(since no one else is bumping this thread)
they're doing a US tour now...please go see them
I was at the Chicago show - a little disappointing that the crowd was kinda thin (maybe 2/3rds the amount of people as last time, but it was also a Tuesday), but if that bothered the band at all, they didn't show it. The songs were great but the best parts were when they were just jamming on "I Used to Dance with My Daddy" or "Fa-Fa-Fa". The former is such a great jam and the one song by them you all need to get immediately. Also, it occured to me last night that they really do not have that many songs.

that new single with the 105 b-sides should fix that

I ordered the USB toy; cost $50 but it's well worth it if you're a fan of the group. The new stuff is awesome. "Catcher in the Rye" should be one of the best singles of the year. I watched about half the concert film and it was incredible. They should do a live album. Every time I see them the best parts are always the extended jams on "I Used to Dance With My Daddy" and "Fa-Fa-Fa" but that's not really captured on record.

I was curious but cheapest version looks like US$99?! or $200 with a tracksuit.

I'm gonna try to do an MP3 rip of the concert film when I get home

okay, I know this band's profile has fallen a bit since 07 or whatever, but isn't it strange that their new album has been out for a week now and there's no mention of it anywhere? it's not on RYM or Discogs, much less reviewed anywhere...I've heard this band on the radio, in video games, on TV, they toured the US twice, what gives?
― frogbs, Saturday, 2 January 2016 05:01 (ten years ago)
they got a new album out now and it's uhhh really fun. sounds like they're making a break from their past stuff. reminds me a bit of Lexicon of Love, lots of great bass lines and its really over the top
