I remember hearing their track that went "I Want to be a porno star" back in 2001 and really finding it boring. What's their new stuff like?

Props to Klen@clone for his kick ass reissue work this year. Gesamkunstwerk and the Classic Cuts reissues are on fire right now. I guess this stuff isn't balearic enough for the ilm massif, tho.

I need to pick up the new Dopplereffekt record. How does it compare to the last Arpanet record?

i really liked "linear accelerator". listening to "calabi yau space" today, it's freaking me out.

why is dopplerffekt studying particle physics? what is dopplereffekt trying to accomplish? where are the drexicyans? what is their mysterious purpose? teleportation? time travel? intercourse with higher dimensions? is there truth to the rumor are they, in fact, attempting to contact the spirit of james stinson?

Gesamkunstwerk is pretty great. You can't go wrong with any of the Clone Classic Cuts.

you should get calabi yau space if you want tracks that sound like john carpenter soundtracks. tinny synths playing frosty minor-key scales, barely any drums.

there's not much in the dopplereffekt catalog that sounds like goblin. early dopplereffekt sounds like "computer world"-era kraftwerk updated to match chicago house and detroit techno sensibilities. i like it, but it's not really filmic.

oops I meant Z Boson. and those are on Linear Accelerator anyway. nevermind.

stevie, tbh, they sucked. kieran hebden blew em out of the water. they had no stage presence, and didn't really bang out much. i left with my friends feeling kinda :/

shit, really? I saw Four Tet once (on a side stage at like 2pm at some festival) and it was amazing. So he performed as himself and not Four Tet? Did he do laptop stuff or "IRL instruments" or both?

he was solo DJing, working four turntables (haha), two with Serato and two with regular vinyl, as far as i could tell.

Listening to Linear Accelerator again tonight, been a while. But fuck me if this record is not in my all-time top ten.

Anyone know what they are up to? If they are up to anything at all?

NEW ALBUM!

Dopplereffekt will release their first album in ten years on April 7th.

Cellular Automata is coming out in vinyl and digital formats via Leisure System, the Berlin-based label that put out 2013's Tetrahymena EP and 2014's split 12-inch with Objekt, Hypnagogia. The group's first full-length since Calabi Yau Space in 2007 "approaches mathematical growth and decay as an iterative process, with each data input considered individually relative to the overall model," according to the label. Dopplereffekt are Rudolf Klorzeiger, AKA Drexciya's Gerald Donald, and To-Nhan. You can find out more about the album on the Leisure System website.

It's been a good year so far for fans of Detroit electro—in January, Clone announced it was reissuing Drexciya's Grava 4 and The Other People Place's Sunday Night Live At The Laptop Cafe, while a reissue of The Other People Place's seminal album, Lifestyles Of The Laptop Café, came out through Warp Records last month.
