pisces, Friday, 3 August 2007 16:15 (eighteen years ago)

i think a thread of this kind was necessary, on this momentous day.

'bluetonic', from what i recall of it. i can't say i know many of those songs.

That one guy that hit it and quit it, Friday, 3 August 2007 16:18 (eighteen years ago)

OMG I expected my answer to this to be a semi-jokey posing 'NONE OF THEM!' but there actually isn't a single decent song on here.

Matt DC, Friday, 3 August 2007 16:20 (eighteen years ago)

Actually I don't know #9 - is it trip-hop?

Matt DC, Friday, 3 August 2007 16:20 (eighteen years ago)

I voted Symposium, they were a good looking bunch of lads. If they'd have stuck around a few years longer they could have been as big as Hell Is For Heroes

Dom Passantino, Friday, 3 August 2007 16:22 (eighteen years ago)

I have a small soft spot for #10 actually.

anatol_merklich, Friday, 3 August 2007 16:26 (eighteen years ago)

Horrible list, horrible film. Has to be the Bluetones though.

Neil S, Friday, 3 August 2007 16:55 (eighteen years ago)

The Space song is worth it for the line
"So I hit him with the only thing that was anywhere near me,
A tin of baked beans and a Woman's Weekly"

But Golden Skin is the only good song I think (can't remember half of them to be honest).

everything, Friday, 3 August 2007 17:45 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, #15 is lovely!

Finefinemusic, Friday, 3 August 2007 17:55 (eighteen years ago)

I'm sure it is. I can't remember it unfortunately. Also, the Dubstar number might be good - have to dig out those albums again sometime.

everything, Friday, 3 August 2007 18:12 (eighteen years ago)

#15 is the one where he sings in a really bombastic style about how the lady he's seeing is making him HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAPPPPPPPPPYYYYYYYYY!

Finefinemusic, Friday, 3 August 2007 18:43 (eighteen years ago)

TWO Space songs? Oh cruel world.

"Lava" by Silver Sun is, like, the best Britpop song ever that doesn't have anyone else saying it's the best Britpop song ever.
"Golden Skin" isn't. But it probably gets my vote anyway.

a passing spacecadet, Friday, 3 August 2007 19:59 (eighteen years ago)

I only have the best of Dubstar...but it's very (well, fairly) good!

Just got offed, Friday, 3 August 2007 20:41 (eighteen years ago)

"Day Before Yesterday's Men" is an absolute classic, which of course I voted for.

Geir Hongro, Friday, 3 August 2007 20:51 (eighteen years ago)

The Silver Sun song is pretty ace, Lave maybe the bestest song ever thou. If they had tried less hard and been American they'd have been on Matador and exalted to this day by the indie rock dudes who hang round this board.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Sunday, 5 August 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

I only know the Strangelove and Wannadies tunes. And I'll defend the greatness of the first two Strangelove albums to the death against you britpop haters! Hardly 'pop' at all...

Mr. Odd, Monday, 6 August 2007 00:29 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Monday, 6 August 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

Had to be said.

Dom Passantino, Monday, 6 August 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)
