I don't know what the connection is here, with each other or with top soca singer Lord Kitchener.

extra points for tying either to Bolan's "Beltane Walk"
or for further Queens-Detroit conflations, e.g. John Beltram
oh, and it's Van Dyke Wilson and Brian Parks, BTW...

I'm thinking of the calypso guy not the Kula SHaker dude

thought you were taking the piss, Dave, hence facetious answer
but now i see there's a strong link present here
since Van Dyke Parks covered 2 Kitchener songs on Clang Of The Yankee Reaper:
"Tribute To Spree (Simon)" and "Soul Train"

still, confirm that's a typo on Joey Beltram (not John Beltran i'm guessing)
and you may get more hits
not that reversed strings sample on "Energy Flash"?
that's Parks or Kitchener?
you diggin' deep or what?

even though I am a Joey Beltram fan, i'm going with:

#1. Lord Kitchener
#2. Van Dyke Parks
#3. Joey Beltram

...and that ain't chronological ranking either

yeah, yeah - apples, oranges, lemons - whatever!

great thread. i love all three!

i go with beltram

van dyke parks could never have written such an anthem as energy flash.
