In a complete turnaround from Vol. 5, this might be the best of the American NOW! releases up to this point.

Johnny Fever, Saturday, 4 August 2007 00:27 (eighteen years ago)

I'm trying to figure out which of these songs best sums up everything mediocre about radio during this album's timespan. Probably Evan & Jaron, they're the most nondescript band on this list.

Curt1s Stephens, Saturday, 4 August 2007 00:30 (eighteen years ago)

I'm voting for NSync because it's the best thing they ever did.

Curt1s Stephens, Saturday, 4 August 2007 00:32 (eighteen years ago)

ATC : "Around The World (La La La La La)"

Totally forgot this song existed. I might just vote for it for nostalgia's sake..

billstevejim, Saturday, 4 August 2007 00:45 (eighteen years ago)

Everclear was on multiple NOWs? So glad I was drunk for the majority of those years.

milo z, Saturday, 4 August 2007 00:59 (eighteen years ago)

NO!

The Reverend, Saturday, 4 August 2007 01:45 (eighteen years ago)

1. Destiny's Child : "Independent Women Part I"
2. Shaggy : "It Wasn't Me"
3. Britney Spears : "Stronger"
4. Coldplay : "Yellow"
5. R. Kelly : "I Wish"

The Reverend, Saturday, 4 August 2007 01:47 (eighteen years ago)

The one where I didn't vote for "Hard Knock Life" or "Praise You" (2? 3?) is the best so far.

The Reverend, Saturday, 4 August 2007 01:48 (eighteen years ago)

ALL OF THESE ARE THE WORST NOW ALBUM

Curt1s Stephens, Saturday, 4 August 2007 01:49 (eighteen years ago)

Are you having your syphilitic rants again?

The Reverend, Saturday, 4 August 2007 02:07 (eighteen years ago)

YES

Curt1s Stephens, Saturday, 4 August 2007 02:11 (eighteen years ago)

this might be the best of the American NOW! releases up to this point.

OTM! "Bye Bye Bye" is a monster, "Independent Women Part I" is pretty damn good as far as soundtrack hits go, and I have to say I've never had any problem with that Fuel song - have at thee! The middle ground is well-held by things like "It Wasn't Me," "Yellow," "AM Radio," and "Beautiful Day," which are all pleasant enough that I don't turn them off if they come on the radio. (I loathed "Beautiful Day" at the time, but I had sort of a thing against U2 that has since relaxed a bit.)

Maximum duddage to the Lenny Kravitz song though. A sad retread of the "pick a chorus and beat it into the ground" formula of "Fly," but now with a mopey tone. Auuuugh. The Creed is also really terrible.

It's got to be "Bye Bye Bye" though. Great hooks, pretty decent rhythm track, and a fun dance that's easy to imitate!

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 4 August 2007 02:24 (eighteen years ago)

OMGWTF I just voted for Fuel.

"Yellow" and "Beautiful Day" duel for second, "Bye Bye Bye" a close third.

rogermexico., Saturday, 4 August 2007 02:27 (eighteen years ago)

"Crazy" was good proto-T-Pain but "It Wasn't Me" gets my vote for both concept and execution ("She even caught me on camera!")

bernard snowy, Saturday, 4 August 2007 02:37 (eighteen years ago)

AND LEAVE LOVE BLEEDIN IN MY HAAAANDS
IN MY HANDS AGAIIIIN

dud though: the high-contrast, scenery-chewing video. man oh man.

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 4 August 2007 02:55 (eighteen years ago)

Fuel dude was secretly Rob Thomas with blue contacts and a dyejob

Curt1s Stephens, Saturday, 4 August 2007 03:01 (eighteen years ago)

AND LEAVE LOVE BLEEDIN IN MY HAAAANDS
IN MY HANDS AGAIIIIN

Best pseudo-heavy Elton John rip evar.

rogermexico., Saturday, 4 August 2007 03:12 (eighteen years ago)

The thing is, an alt-rock band actually covering "Love Lies Bleeding" would be really really bad - so I think they made the right move. Curt1s OTM.

Doctor Casino, Saturday, 4 August 2007 03:36 (eighteen years ago)

destiny's child by approximately 345 miles.

tipsy mothra, Saturday, 4 August 2007 04:53 (eighteen years ago)

(and not just because that singing kitten video either)

tipsy mothra, Saturday, 4 August 2007 04:54 (eighteen years ago)

Beautiful Day wins be default. Good song which has also been used for great irony.

Cunga, Saturday, 4 August 2007 05:10 (eighteen years ago)

Lots of awful R&B. But it did have "Yellow" on it at least.

Geir Hongro, Saturday, 4 August 2007 08:12 (eighteen years ago)

shaaaaaaaagy.

Jordan Sargent, Saturday, 4 August 2007 16:40 (eighteen years ago)

I really love "Yellow," even if it is a complete ripoff of "Only Shallow" by My Bloody Valentine .

Mr. Snrub, Saturday, 4 August 2007 20:38 (eighteen years ago)

"Bye Bye Bye" by some distance.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Saturday, 4 August 2007 21:03 (eighteen years ago)

Does anyone else remember the Bye Bye Bye video, where there's one point where Justin drops from the roof and lands and the music stops and he goes "hah" and like omg! That was awesome.

musically, Saturday, 4 August 2007 21:09 (eighteen years ago)

1. Destiny's Child, "Independent Women Part I"
2. Coldplay, "Yellow"
3. Shaggy, "It Wasn't Me"
4. Fuel, "Hemorrhage (In My Hands)"
5. Incubus, "Drive"

da croupier, Saturday, 4 August 2007 21:42 (eighteen years ago)

I like the N'Sync, Kelly and Creed too.

da croupier, Saturday, 4 August 2007 21:43 (eighteen years ago)

Britney Spears : "Stronger" <<< Not that good, but I think the video is cool.
Samantha Mumba : "Gotta Tell You" <<< What happened to her?
'N Sync : "Bye Bye Bye" <<< Hated it then, have grown to like it quite a bit. 3rd or 4th
Destiny's Child : "Independent Women Part I" <<< Awesome track...didn't like it much at the time. 1st or 2nd.
Shaggy : "It Wasn't Me" <<< Own this album; GREAT KARAOKE. 1st or 2nd place.
3LW : "No More (Baby I'ma Do Right)" <<< Underrated. 5th place.
K-Ci & JoJo : "Crazy" <<< I own the first album, but I think this is on the second.
R. Kelly : "I Wish" <<< Don't remember.
Evan and Jaron : "Crazy For This Girl" <<< I own this album.
Coldplay : "Yellow" <<< Still nice! 3rd or 4th place.

Tape Store, Sunday, 5 August 2007 00:42 (eighteen years ago)

at the time I was very upset at the blatant hypocrisy of "Independent Women" coming in the wake of "Bills Bills Bills". I eventually got over it, though (nb I still like "Bills Bills Bills" better)

bernard snowy, Sunday, 5 August 2007 01:59 (eighteen years ago)

this volume IS actually quite good...my vote went to the DChild.

also, LENNY KRAVITZ HAS OTHER SONGZ????, SHOCKA!

johnny crunch, Sunday, 5 August 2007 03:22 (eighteen years ago)

10 BAD songs
4 MEH songs
3 GOOD songs
2 GREAT songs

NOW! THAT'S WHAT I CALL A MEDIOCRE COMPILATION!

Tape Store, Sunday, 5 August 2007 03:50 (eighteen years ago)

I really love "Yellow," even if it is a complete ripoff of "Only Shallow" by My Bloody Valentine.

HAHA never noticed this! That to go along with stealing "Dreams Burn Down" by Ride.

Cunga, Sunday, 5 August 2007 04:04 (eighteen years ago)

Does nobody else weep at the greatness of "I Wish"? It may be the best thing he's ever done!

dr. phil, Sunday, 5 August 2007 17:27 (eighteen years ago)

DC for second Now! poll in a row. J-Lo a close second this time though.

Jeff W, Monday, 6 August 2007 09:19 (eighteen years ago)

independent women for sure

A B C, Monday, 6 August 2007 09:30 (eighteen years ago)

The only songs I can bear to listen to are the ones by Kels, DC AND Coldplay so its gotta be one of those. Not sure yet.

Christyles, Monday, 6 August 2007 09:52 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Tuesday, 7 August 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

Six people voted for Creed...please out yourselves right now!

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 23:18 (eighteen years ago)

I'm more offended by the votes for Shaggy!

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 23:25 (eighteen years ago)

i'm a shaggy voter, but if i knew "love don't cost a thing" was only going to get one vote i would have voted for that.

Jordan Sargent, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 23:28 (eighteen years ago)

Everclear : "AM Radio" 2

WHO VOTED IN THIS POLL

Curt1s Stephens, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 23:30 (eighteen years ago)

srsly

rogermexico., Wednesday, 8 August 2007 23:33 (eighteen years ago)

Shaggy = AWESOME KARAOKE, and if you don't appreciate that, then forget you!

Tape Store, Thursday, 9 August 2007 00:04 (eighteen years ago)

Alfred, why do you hate Best Singalong Evar? (I should have voted for it. "Independent Women" is good, but not nearly as fun.)

The Reverend, Thursday, 9 August 2007 00:08 (eighteen years ago)

I'm being extremely reductive here and feel free to call me a bigoted asshole if I'm rong, but perhaps, for obvious reasons, it isn't as fun for gays as straights?

The Reverend, Thursday, 9 August 2007 00:11 (eighteen years ago)

RONG

Tape Store, Thursday, 9 August 2007 00:12 (eighteen years ago)

Alright, then.

The Reverend, Thursday, 9 August 2007 00:32 (eighteen years ago)

Nice to see "Beautiful Day" up there. Proves that there are some ILM'ers out there who know a good tune. One of the best U2 songs ever.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 9 August 2007 00:41 (eighteen years ago)

Alfred, why do you hate Best Singalong Evar? (I should have voted for it. "Independent Women" is good, but not nearly as fun.)

It's the stupid, pseudo self-deprecating rant that every het has whined in my ear for the last 10 years.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 9 August 2007 00:43 (eighteen years ago)

I hate him and his guts.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 9 August 2007 00:44 (eighteen years ago)

it's not pseudo self-deprecating! it's just flat-out hilarious lying!

bernard snowy, Thursday, 9 August 2007 00:46 (eighteen years ago)

He wants you to forgive his adorable-ness.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 9 August 2007 00:47 (eighteen years ago)

it's not pseudo self-deprecating! it's just flat-out hilarious lying!

This. It's so slimely dishonest that you can't help but love it.

The Reverend, Thursday, 9 August 2007 00:49 (eighteen years ago)

Talk to your boy Mick jagger about cute slimley dishonesty.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 9 August 2007 00:50 (eighteen years ago)

*slimey

Assholes who try to be cute <<<< Assholes who don't hide their jerkdom

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 9 August 2007 00:52 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, but Shaggy's a better singer. (Not that that says much.)

Also, I've never heard any rant like that, but maybe I'm just good at avoiding people who are total tools.

The Reverend, Thursday, 9 August 2007 00:53 (eighteen years ago)

two years pass...

revive

Now That's What I Call A Pole, Saturday, 27 March 2010 03:31 (fifteen years ago)
