Does anyone else think this album is absolutley gorgeous? From Dreamlover (the video!) to the title track -- "through it aaalll, you tell me I'm the only one you neeeeeeed..." -- Mariah's voice resounds against impeccable songcraft (in large part her own, it seems).
I've Been Thinking About You, Anytime You Need A Friend and Hero are all astonishing in their own right. And in the middle of the album, a track pops up that doesn't normally, for reasons unimaginable: Now That I Know, a frenzied, refined dance number with vocals that cut like a knife.
This is definitely a favorite of mine.

My older sister did. I loved "Dreamlover" and "Hero" as a kid.

::whew::
I put Dreamlover on the other day thinking it would be a throwback whateva and it totally came alive to me. when you get past what u heard when you were 16, it's really swingin and passionate.

That 'Anytime you need a friend' C&C club remix is the best thing she's ever done with Clivilles & Cole. Those scats nearing the song's close are golden. I WISH she'd do something that brilliant again.

oooh i dunno that i've ever heard the club mix!

The album itself is quite good. I get the feeling that it was kinda toned down though. A few more dance numbers would have helped a bit more. And her vocals are the best they'll ever be( barring Merry Christmas).

yes, definitely needed a few more dance numbers. even a couple of more mid tempo/uptempo songs like I've Been Thinking About You would have been good. BUT the balladry is the best it could have been. and her VOICE, ugh... even tho it's slow, whereas i didn't get it when i was younger, the title track is sooooooo gorgeous. it's like a foreshadowing of her later My All, but better, and her voice sounds better. So full.

i really think everyone needs to listen to Music Box the song as an example of how a ballad should be a sung.

I keep imagining Bowie crooning "Can't Let Go."
