i get a kick out of queen victoria being a power pop girl.

get bent, Saturday, 4 August 2007 17:09 (eighteen years ago)

Is "Sheila, She" the same song as "She Sheila" by the Producers? Because that song is fantastic.

J, Saturday, 4 August 2007 17:14 (eighteen years ago)

yes it is

get bent, Saturday, 4 August 2007 17:15 (eighteen years ago)

fantastic, i mean. i don't know if it's the same song.

get bent, Saturday, 4 August 2007 17:16 (eighteen years ago)

Kimmy D!

Surmounter, Saturday, 4 August 2007 17:22 (eighteen years ago)

Lots of pick from, but I'm going with "Annie's Gone" by Redd Kross.

Alex in NYC, Saturday, 4 August 2007 17:24 (eighteen years ago)

don't think it's the same song

Kenny Howes is this dude: http://www.kennyhowes.com

But I'm gonna have to look up that Producers track now

MC, Saturday, 4 August 2007 17:25 (eighteen years ago)

can't help nitpicking: part of the definition of powerpop is that a song has electric guitars, right?

i LOVE the kinks, voted for "victoria", but i prefer the fall's version

outdoor_miner, Saturday, 4 August 2007 17:45 (eighteen years ago)

Candy-O
She had me with her sunday dress and ruby ring.

quixNYC, Saturday, 4 August 2007 17:54 (eighteen years ago)

which one you referring to? lead guitar in victoria is electric...

MC, Saturday, 4 August 2007 18:06 (eighteen years ago)

was talking about Alison and Eleanor Rigby, to name two that i think of as being country-ish pop and chamber pop respectively

outdoor_miner, Saturday, 4 August 2007 18:12 (eighteen years ago)

Voting for Sloan, but wow my name's on the list!

2for25, Saturday, 4 August 2007 18:17 (eighteen years ago)

While I don't count The Beatles as powerpop, "Michelle" is still too good not to vote for.

Geir Hongro, Saturday, 4 August 2007 18:19 (eighteen years ago)

Good points. I'll have to amend my playlist.

MC, Saturday, 4 August 2007 18:20 (eighteen years ago)

but wow my name's on the list!

I always knew 2for25 was Angelina Jolie.

MC, Saturday, 4 August 2007 18:21 (eighteen years ago)

the Beatles sort of invented powerpop ("she loves you" isn't powerpop to you?). "michelle" has no power though, and it's kinda cheesy, imo

outdoor_miner, Saturday, 4 August 2007 18:22 (eighteen years ago)

Lola

would have voted for an "An American Girl" had it been an option

milo z, Saturday, 4 August 2007 18:30 (eighteen years ago)

Too Much Joy, Donna Everywhere

She hated underwear.

Jake Brown, Saturday, 4 August 2007 21:24 (eighteen years ago)

That was a write-in.

Jake Brown, Saturday, 4 August 2007 21:29 (eighteen years ago)

the Beatles sort of invented powerpop

I would say influenced rather than invented. If there was one band that invented Powerpop, it'd be The Who, with their melodic songs and power chords combined in the same songs. Plus Pete Townshend was the one who first came up with the powerpop the term.

Geir Hongro, Saturday, 4 August 2007 22:34 (eighteen years ago)

I voted for the best song up there, Cheap Trick's Oh Candy.

Even though Candy in that song is a guy, a friend of the band's who killed himself, initials M M, hence the Candy nickname.

kornrulez6969, Saturday, 4 August 2007 22:43 (eighteen years ago)

That Redd Kross album is awesome BUT I had to go with the winner who became a doggie's dinner. That's just how I roll :)

Morley Timmons, Monday, 6 August 2007 00:46 (eighteen years ago)

I found something I like a lot to vote for but one other nice one is "Mary Anne" by Marshall Crenshaw.

Saxby D. Elder, Monday, 6 August 2007 00:50 (eighteen years ago)

Alison

stephen, Monday, 6 August 2007 20:57 (eighteen years ago)

"My Sister Jane" by Green... "so pretty and cool..."

Saxby D. Elder, Monday, 6 August 2007 21:00 (eighteen years ago)

I really like "Lady Sweet" off the Big Star comeback record.

wanko ergo sum, Monday, 6 August 2007 21:34 (eighteen years ago)

no no girl - the quick

dan, Monday, 6 August 2007 21:53 (eighteen years ago)

Too Much Joy, Donna Everywhere

Down by the lakeside, in her lawnchair

kingkongvsgodzilla, Monday, 6 August 2007 22:04 (eighteen years ago)

"My Sister Jane" by Green... "so pretty and cool..."

Hey, if we're voting GREEN, we gotta go with "Radio Caroline"...or "Monique, Monique"
