Powerpop Anthems Poll

My vote for "Killer Queen" even though it isn't powerpop.

Not going to be very surprised if "September Gurls" wins this though.

Another Girl is about the best on the list (other than Metal Guru which wouldn't be PP)
My three favorites are-

a lot of stuff here that i would hardly call power pop (not just "Killer Queen"), not to speak of stuff i've never even heard of.

"Shake Some Action" OTM. Should have been in there obviously. Possibly "Yellow Pills" too (although even though I love it myself, and might even have voted for it instead of Queen, it is somewhat more "obscure")

People need to recognize that 'Tonight' is the Raspberries choice cut.

Voted for "Driver's Seat" (which reminds me more of early Dire Straits than of, say, the Knack or Records or Raspberries, but what the heck.)

Second place might not be "Isn't It Time" by the Babys, but it's close.

The Raspberries choice cut would have been "Overnight Sensation (Hit Record)".

They should have picked "Starry Eyes" instead of "Hearts in Her Eyes." No Elvis Costello?

Yeah Overnight Sensation is The Raspberries best song. Not sure if it is Power Pop, more of a Power Ballad though.

"Friday On My Mind". I wish I had the "remix" from 96 Rock in Tampa in the mid 80s when they played this on their Friday 5PM show with added time clock whistles, etc.

"My Best Friend's Girl" ... that song is just architypal to this genre, if that's what you want to call it. I smile and bop every time I hear it. So it gets my vote.

Yeah, the lack of love for Green around here is kinda mystifying...so I'll just go ahead and write-in "Not Going Down Anymore." The absolute definition of powerpop. Crashingly thrilling.

I voted for Raspberries' "No Matter What." I'm not such a huge fan of their albums--some great stuff but Eric Carmen as Sir Paul Ramone isn't my idea of fun fun fun--but seems to me that song sums it up about as good as anything. "No Matter What" was my second choice. Of the Big Star songs, certainly "September Gurls" is excellent, but of their songs I'd pick "Back of a Car."

Obviously, I voted for the Raspberries' "Go All the Way." I'm listening to Jackie DeShannon singing Bacharach and it's distracting me.
