I'd love to find out more, but I fear that Google will be unpropitious.

Just got offed, Sunday, 5 August 2007 10:21 (eighteen years ago)

whatever it is, that's a fucking awful name.

GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Sunday, 5 August 2007 10:53 (eighteen years ago)

If you pronounce the W in Sword it's a great name.

Noodle Vague, Sunday, 5 August 2007 10:54 (eighteen years ago)

Also, any band name that doesn't begin with "The" for the win, basically.

max, Sunday, 5 August 2007 13:47 (eighteen years ago)

Bit shit. Too IDM.

jim, Sunday, 5 August 2007 16:58 (eighteen years ago)

It's okay. (I initially typed that as 'oaky.')

http://www.boomkat.com/media/stock_images/TBCD039_Cover.jpg

then yeah i like it

am0n, Sunday, 5 August 2007 21:45 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah it is a bit too IDM at times actually. But I still rilly like.

Apparently the name comes from a shop near where the dude lives (in Sweden?) and that's what they sell...

Drooone, Sunday, 5 August 2007 22:09 (eighteen years ago)

xp it's a great album cover too.

Drooone, Monday, 6 August 2007 00:15 (eighteen years ago)

I thought this would be a Wu-Tang thread.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Saturday, 3 November 2007 17:33 (eighteen years ago)

lol @ "too idm"

chaki, Saturday, 3 November 2007 18:53 (eighteen years ago)

I like this quite a bit too

mh, Saturday, 3 November 2007 18:59 (eighteen years ago)

I've just realised what the concept behind the on-CD-case tracklisting is. Very, very nice.

Just got offed, Sunday, 4 November 2007 11:10 (eighteen years ago)

i think explains freedom might be better. especially 'futuristic rasta money'

am0n, Sunday, 4 November 2007 17:46 (eighteen years ago)

lol @ "too idm"

Lots of write-ups calling it ambient. It isn't ambient, it's IDM. I like the former but not the latter. LOLz

jim, Sunday, 4 November 2007 18:07 (eighteen years ago)

what, it can't be both?

am0n, Sunday, 4 November 2007 18:46 (eighteen years ago)

Nah. On ILM, everything has to belong to a genre (preferably a microgenre); such pigeonholings are the only way we can get our head around the idea of variety in music.

Just got offed, Sunday, 4 November 2007 18:48 (eighteen years ago)

ha ha, well said

, Sunday, 4 November 2007 18:54 (eighteen years ago)

is this one of those albums that is ambient IDM? maybe with some guitar layers but overall its atmospheric music?

CaptainLorax, Sunday, 4 November 2007 19:57 (eighteen years ago)

what, it can't be both?
Yes it can but I'd prefer if it wasn't.

I like rap and metal but I don't like rap-metal.

jim, Sunday, 4 November 2007 20:02 (eighteen years ago)

In all honesty I just feel sorry for the guy who released an album just like this, for free, on a "net-label" five years ago which was downloaded by about 5 people while this guy seems to be successful.

jim, Sunday, 4 November 2007 20:16 (eighteen years ago)

i'm feel sorry for me trying to download it for free and not being successful.

ledge, Sunday, 4 November 2007 20:23 (eighteen years ago)

i do not feel sorry for me, because i got it off amazon for a fiver.

your rap-metal analogue is crass and irrelevant btw. who gives a toss whether something is trying to be 'IDM' or 'ambient', or both? judge it on how it sounds, compared to how other things sound. bringing unnecessary genre debates into musical discussion is the bane of this entire messageboard.

Just got offed, Sunday, 4 November 2007 20:28 (eighteen years ago)

Try reading what I wrote. I could care less about classifications.

jim, Sunday, 4 November 2007 20:31 (eighteen years ago)

Except in so-far as they help describe the music. So I got something thinking it was ambient like Brian Eno. Not plinky-plonky reverbing twinkles.

jim, Sunday, 4 November 2007 20:32 (eighteen years ago)

plinky-plonky reverbing twinkles

^^ eno??

moonship journey to baja, Sunday, 4 November 2007 20:36 (eighteen years ago)

...but not all 'ambient' music has to sound like Eno! it's a very broad adjective, and i'd describe the found-sound floaty-static vignettes that comprise the majority of this record (i.e. the 'incidental'-sounding stuff) as quintessentially ambient! just because some of the tracks have keyboard riffs doesn't mean it can't be ambient. your expectations have been perverted by preconceptions about musical buzzwords. calling something 'ambient' can only ever be a loose definition, unless you don't understand what the word 'ambient' means.

Just got offed, Sunday, 4 November 2007 20:38 (eighteen years ago)

i like every single prog song ever, and i like every single shoegaze song ever, but i loathe every single song that attempts to combine any of the characteristics of the two

Just got offed, Sunday, 4 November 2007 20:42 (eighteen years ago)

My expectations have not been perverted by shit.

jim, Sunday, 4 November 2007 20:57 (eighteen years ago)

I like idm and ambient. I like Aphex Twin in "ambient" mode. Some of the album is very good. Tracks like "giftwrap yourself, slowly" make me want to vomit.

jim, Sunday, 4 November 2007 20:59 (eighteen years ago)

aha, but you have actually gone to the bother of isolating a single track from the album and expressing why you don't like it. this isn't the same as dismissing the whole album as 'IDM' or 'IDM crossed with ambient, which I hate, because you shouldn't mix genres', which is what you were saying/implying earlier. yeah, 'giftwrap yourself, slowly' has a fairly 'IDM'-esque drum sound (should you wish to put it like that), and i can see how this irritates you. no need to take it out on the whole album.

Just got offed, Sunday, 4 November 2007 21:11 (eighteen years ago)

The thing is the tracks I don't like are half the album. One called "pappa" something or other was probably even more lamentable.

I'm comfortable with miscegenation. I was just looking for something a bit more ignorable/background.

jim, Sunday, 4 November 2007 21:15 (eighteen years ago)

fair enough. the 'pappa' one i find to be quite a pretty keyboard piece, but it doesn't have the subliminity found elsewhere.

Just got offed, Sunday, 4 November 2007 21:20 (eighteen years ago)

some of the beats are kind of lamentable. i think that's why i prefer the other two albums

am0n, Sunday, 4 November 2007 22:50 (eighteen years ago)

The beat on 'Cubical Fever' (think that's what it's called) is not lamentable; it is favouable, fortunate, beneficial.

W4LTER, Sunday, 4 November 2007 22:55 (eighteen years ago)

i only heard the two old ones and i liked the sound but i figured the tracks would go from "ok, not bad" to "wow i must have this" if the tracks were longer than 2-3 minutes

moonship journey to baja, Monday, 5 November 2007 00:19 (eighteen years ago)

shhheeeeeesh. I've been listening to these mp3s out of order until now. Sounds better in order!

the shitey idm beats are def a turn off still :/
BUT i still liejk this quite a lot

W4LTER, Sunday, 18 November 2007 10:18 (eighteen years ago)

i put it on, had a cone and before you knew it, it had finished...

...yet i cant remember what it sounded like

musta been good...
