A sequel to the previous thread. Anyway, promo guff:
A new dawn awaits!! Southern Lord Recordings and Om have set October 2nd as the official release date for their 3rd (first on Southern Lord) full-length album!! This beast is entitled: “Pilgrimage” and was recorded at Electrical Audio in Chicago, IL. by Steve Albini. The album is currently being mastered by Bob Weston (also in Shellac) at Chicago Mastering Services. “Pilgrimage” expands on their unique use of riff,,, cadence…chant..as heard on previous recordings yet finds the band expanding their vision into new territories. Of particular note is how much the song-writing has developed and in turn makes the dynamics of the songs much more intensely powerful. The track-listing for “Pilgrimage” is as follows: 1. Pilgrimage 2. Unitive Knowledge of the Godhead 3. Bhimas Theme 4. Pilgrimage (reprise) A gatefold LP version of the album will also be released sometime shortly after the CD release.OM will also be performing live on the following dates:09/13 Beachland Ballroom - Cleveland, OH 09/14 Empty Bottle - Chicago, IL w/ Circle 09/15 Empty Bottle - Chicago, IL w/Daniel Higgs 09/16 Southgate House - Newport, KY 09/19 Marquee Theatre - Tempe, AZ w/Pinback 09/20 Sunshine Theatre - Albuquerque, NM w/Pinback 09/21 Bricktown Live - Oklahoma City, OK w/ Pinback 09/22 Palladium Ballroom - Dallas, TX w/ Pinback 09/23 Emo’s - Austin, TX…stay tuned for East Coast dates in November and West Coast in December. …samples of the new recording will be made available on Southern Lord in the near future!

Now if only they had decided to release it two weeks earlier to coincide with a certain other release coming up.

..expands on their unique use of riff,,, cadence…chant..as heard on previous recordings yet finds the band expanding their vision into new territories.
..so it's pretty much going to be the best music EVAH MADE then.

so far the best shit they've done has been on those split releases
― am0n, Tuesday, 7 August 2007 03:41 (eighteen years ago)
But all their shit has been of such a high quality. Also, I'm wondering if the description of their "new" sound in that blurb means they'll be doing more shit like At Giza.

They played a track off this (I *think* the title track but I wasn't inclined to take notes) when I saw them about three weeks ago. It was fucken huge, as was the rest of their set
― DJ Mencap, Tuesday, 7 August 2007 13:31 (eighteen years ago)
I'm extremely excited for this. I bet it'll be awesome.
Also, I'm wondering if the description of their "new" sound in that blurb means they'll be doing more shit like At Giza.
That's what I was thinking too -- that song is definitely a major change from their other stuff. (Haven't heard any non-album tracks, though.) I wouldn't mind that at all. How's the Current 93 collaboration, btw?
On a different note, I just picked up Sleep's Dopesmoker. I think it's pretty awesome but I definitely prefer Om. Cisneros' vocals are a lot better in Om and I love the "riff,,, cadence…chant" stuff they do to such great effect.
Can't wait to hear it!

― unperson, Friday, 14 September 2007 11:49 (eighteen years ago)
it's like these guys knew that they only way I could possibly love them any more than I already do was if they wrote a totally awesome song called "Unitive Knowledge of the Godhead"!
― bernard snowy, Friday, 14 September 2007 12:06 (eighteen years ago)
I know bernard. I haven't even listened to the tune yet but I just smiled upon reading that song title. Let's all say it again, it's worth repeating: "Unitive Knowledge of the Godhead."

well now I'm really glad I caught their in-store at Amoeba SF last year
"Om is all about the absoultely rigid chemistry and synergy between those two guys, as anyone who's seen them live will testify...most awesomely powerful sound I have ever heard made by two humans, ever. I hope they sort this shit out."

When Hakius stayed at my house years ago, he turned me on to Billy Cobham. Thanks Chris!!!
emil amos is the new drummer, new 7" titled "gebel barkal" just completed, due out soon on sub pop. full-length due next year.
i'll be very curious to hear the new drummer.
so anyone know the reasons hakius left? any word on shrinebuilder (and whether or not he's still a part of it?)

hope it comes out on cd eventually, can't be arsed to chase vinyl anymore.

I doubt it's that ltd actually. Supposedly it is a vinyl only release.

it's SUPER LIMITED to 3,100 copies, no big deal, really. that's probably about how many it'd sell anyway :D

I doubt it will sell out quick due to its shittiness of sound. Packaging is nice though. Wonder when the 7" will drop.
― Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 1 July 2008 23:29 (seventeen years ago)
so is this 7" out or not? nobody seems to have it in the real world, the subpop website has dick-all information about it. this isn't some subscription-only crap, is it?
― GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Thursday, 21 August 2008 09:05 (seventeen years ago)
yes it is. sub pop singles club or something.

sub pop singele = 1 mediocre track and a throwaway dub version? http://forums.gleemax.com/images/smilies/sleepy.gif
― am0n, Sunday, 31 August 2008 00:38 (seventeen years ago)
i bet it's still better than the shitty sounding live lp
― Herman G. Neuname, Sunday, 31 August 2008 01:26 (seventeen years ago)
might also be that the 7" time constraints don't suit them
― am0n, Sunday, 31 August 2008 01:37 (seventeen years ago)
sub pop singele = 1 mediocre track and a throwaway dub version?
unfortunately otm. "at giza" type stuff but not as good and the vocals actually make the song worse. and they finally build up a head of steam towards the end. 7" is def. not their format, but i hope the album's better. new drummer's got some big shoes to fill and some tiny-ass feet.
― GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Tuesday, 2 September 2008 10:23 (seventeen years ago)
ok but the melodica in the dub version is pretty cool.
― GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ, Tuesday, 2 September 2008 10:26 (seventeen years ago)
ok so i actually think "gebel barkal" is fucking awesome. i was a little disappointed at first but this track is great. new drummer kills, and i loved hakius. dude was seriously hard to top but amos does a pretty good job, he's got a different touch and different dynamic going on, almost has a kind of lightness but he can also get seriously heavy when he needs to.
and they finally build up a head of steam towards the end
yea i would've liked it they made the track longer and didn't cut out the part at the end when things start getting heavier. i'm really optimistic about the album though.

2.15.09Next month we will announce our new label as we enter the studio, again with Albini, to record the new album. All the material is written and we are ready to go. Updates to follow. In other news we have a live LP coming 4/28 on Important: Conference Live. This will be available on vinyl only. Black vinyl and white vinyl editions. Why a live album at this time? We felt it essential to document the way these songs evolved to date before moving on to the aforementioned forthcoming material.
