They played a track off this (I *think* the title track but I wasn't inclined to take notes) when I saw them about three weeks ago. It was fucken huge, as was the rest of their set

That's what I was thinking too -- that song is definitely a major change from their other stuff. (Haven't heard any non-album tracks, though.) I wouldn't mind that at all. How's the Current 93 collaboration, btw?

On a different note, I just picked up Sleep's Dopesmoker. I think it's pretty awesome but I definitely prefer Om. Cisneros' vocals are a lot better in Om and I love the "riff,,, cadence…chant" stuff they do to such great effect.

Does anyone know of an online copy of Om's Invisible Jukebox feature in the Wire from a year or two ago? I'd love to check it out, I bet it's pretty interesting. (If it's not anywhere online and someone just happens to have it along with a scanner, don't hesitate to email it to me either...)

emil amos is the new drummer, new 7" titled "gebel barkal" just completed, due out soon on sub pop. full-length due next year.

i'll be very curious to hear the new drummer.

unfortunately otm. "at giza" type stuff but not as good and the vocals actually make the song worse. and they finally build up a head of steam towards the end. 7" is def. not their format, but i hope the album's better. new drummer's got some big shoes to fill and some tiny-ass feet.

ok but the melodica in the dub version is pretty cool.

ok so i actually think "gebel barkal" is fucking awesome. i was a little disappointed at first but this track is great. new drummer kills, and i loved hakius. dude was seriously hard to top but amos does a pretty good job, he's got a different touch and different dynamic going on, almost has a kind of lightness but he can also get seriously heavy when he needs to.

and they finally build up a head of steam towards the end

yea i would've liked it they made the track longer and didn't cut out the part at the end when things start getting heavier. i'm really optimistic about the album though.

i've been checking out grails a bit, and while i think some tunes are hit or miss, amos' drumming is a constant. very good

so i'm happy too that albini's doing this next one too. any word on when the album's coming out?

Looking forward to this as well. These guys have a solid back catalog building up. Live LP coming out on Important Records in a couple months, too!

We felt it essential to document the way these songs evolved to date before moving on to the aforementioned forthcoming material.
