Let's Try This Again - the Parliament Album Poll (Casablanca Era)

despite protests, I'm still ommitting Osmium/Rhenium which, lets face it, is more like a Funkadelic record. The band was almost completely different by the time the Casablanca era began, with the vocalists providing the lone thread of continuity. Anyway, here's hoping we get more than 8 votes this time.

Mothership

Tom D., Wednesday, 8 August 2007 16:16 (eighteen years ago)

... I voted last time, so just need the other 6 who voted before, apart from me and Shakey, to show up

Tom D., Wednesday, 8 August 2007 16:17 (eighteen years ago)

Mothership Connection EVERY.DAMN.TIME!

Alex in NYC, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 17:04 (eighteen years ago)

Funkentelechy vs. the Placebo Syndrome, which just may be Clinton's greatest album ever!

(btw, thanks for the re-do, Shakey; I didn't get to vote last time out.)

JN$OT, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 17:10 (eighteen years ago)

I think I chose the underrated Chocolate City last time.

Herman G. Neuname, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 17:13 (eighteen years ago)

Pappawheelie (I think?) has an interesting takedown of Funkentelechy as being a cop-out/hypocritical bullshit anti-drug album.

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 17:13 (eighteen years ago)

anti-drug album? incredibly ineffective anti-drug album, then.

sexyDancer, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 18:52 (eighteen years ago)

note that I didn't say I agreed with it! It had more to do with his perceptions of how the album was promoted at the time, if I remember correctly... I'll try to find the thread

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 19:12 (eighteen years ago)

at the time? Are you sure we want to consider decades-old marketing decisions in our understanding of boss rhythms n rhyme?

sexyDancer, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 19:20 (eighteen years ago)

I can't seem to find the thread arrrghhh

Shakey Mo Collier, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 19:29 (eighteen years ago)

I'm still ommitting Osmium/Rhenium which, lets face it, is more like a Funkadelic record

Fair enough, it's your thread. Just be sure to include it when you redo the Funkadelic albums poll!

Can't remember how I voted last time - coulda been any one of the 4-in-a-row classics. Motor Booty Affair this time.

Myonga Vön Bontee, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 20:55 (eighteen years ago)

if i were a wizard of finance...

chaki, Wednesday, 8 August 2007 21:31 (eighteen years ago)

"Bah bah black sheep, have you any wool?/ Yes sir, yes sir, a nickelbag full" = anti-drug?

Anyway, I vote Funkentelechy, but I am devoid of funk, I have always been devoid of funk, and I shall continue to be devoid of funk, so what do I know?

The Reverend, Thursday, 9 August 2007 00:29 (eighteen years ago)

Voted "Funkentelechy...". "Mothership...." is also great, but "Funkentelechy" has "Flash Light".

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 9 August 2007 01:06 (eighteen years ago)

The previous attempt at this poll for anyone who needs help making up their mind. Geir seems to have already found this. Dying to know why I'm voting 'Motor Booty Affair'? YOU'LL HAVE TO CLICK TO FIND OUT!!!

Doctor Casino, Thursday, 9 August 2007 03:43 (eighteen years ago)

What??? No Osmium?!?!? Shaking with rage!!!!!

Just kidding. Funkentelechy please. Thank you.

Kevin John Bozelka, Thursday, 9 August 2007 04:51 (eighteen years ago)

Funkentelechy -- it's not even close.

Naive Teen Idol, Thursday, 9 August 2007 14:20 (eighteen years ago)

It seems I did vote Mothership last time then

Herman G. Neuname, Thursday, 9 August 2007 14:26 (eighteen years ago)

Still not understanding how anyone can prefer "Funkentelechy" to "Mothership" - apart from having "Flashlight" on it of course, that does up the ante more than somewhat!

Tom D., Thursday, 9 August 2007 14:40 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, "Flash Light" is that good! Me, I like Mothership, Funkentelechy and Motorbooty pretty much equally.

Myonga Vön Bontee, Thursday, 9 August 2007 17:38 (eighteen years ago)

Somehow inevitably, I expect the downing of the Ilxor.com domain name to render the results of this poll no more legitimate (in the eyes of the unwashed masses) than its predecessor...

Doctor Casino, Sunday, 12 August 2007 19:22 (eighteen years ago)

OK, so here's a TV ad for Funkentelechy vs the Placebo Syndrome:

One vote for Motorbooty Affair here.

Telephone thing, Sunday, 12 August 2007 19:30 (eighteen years ago)

That commercial is awesome!

Doctor Casino, Sunday, 12 August 2007 19:37 (eighteen years ago)

It's great!

Herman G. Neuname, Sunday, 12 August 2007 19:58 (eighteen years ago)

Damn straight. I AM SIR NOSE...DEEEEE-VOID OF FUNK

Telephone thing, Sunday, 12 August 2007 20:18 (eighteen years ago)

Still not understanding how anyone can prefer "Funkentelechy" to "Mothership"

Things I can deduce from this:

You are stuck in the syndrome.
You are not adept at the skilled use of a flashlight.
You are not a wizard of finance.
You have never killed an endangered species with a bop gun.
You are Sir Nose D'Voidoffunk

...and most importantly...

YOU HAVE NOT ACHIEVED FUNKENTELECHY

The Reverend, Sunday, 12 August 2007 23:33 (eighteen years ago)

(That said, nothing wrong with preferring Mothership)

The Reverend, Sunday, 12 August 2007 23:35 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Monday, 13 August 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

anyone who doesnt vote placebo syndrome hasnt listened to all their albums enough.

titchyschneiderMk2, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 11:50 (eighteen years ago)

What can I say, "Bop Gun" bores the tits off me

Tom D., Tuesday, 14 August 2007 11:52 (eighteen years ago)

to be honest, i dont think making albums was really their forte. i always find they dont really flow that well.

titchyschneiderMk2, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 12:00 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

BLASPHEMY

I am really irritated I can't find that thread where Pappa complained about Funkentelechy's anti-drug theme. BAH

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 23:02 (eighteen years ago)

this result is rite on! trombipulation is good though! THE AGONY OF D'FEET!

chaki, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 23:16 (eighteen years ago)

it has its moments but that's a hard one to sit all the way through. They sound pretty tired.

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 23:20 (eighteen years ago)

obviously can't fuck with Let's Play House, of course

Shakey Mo Collier, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 23:20 (eighteen years ago)

Hmm it ate up my earlier post.

Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 23:28 (eighteen years ago)

anyone who doesnt vote placebo syndrome hasnt listened to all their albums enough.

hardly.

Herman G. Neuname, Tuesday, 14 August 2007 23:33 (eighteen years ago)

Well, really it's a tie, because I didn't vote this time, and I would have voted Mothership. (And I doubt there's a person in the world who listened to CC->Funkentelechy more than I did.) I like Chocolate City and Clones better than Funkentelechy (except for the comic book).

Vornado, Wednesday, 15 August 2007 00:04 (eighteen years ago)

Motorbooty robbed again. Oh well. "Funkentelechy" was my second choice anyway.

Doctor Casino, Wednesday, 15 August 2007 02:58 (eighteen years ago)

liquid sunshine might be the best song they ever recorded but the syndrome just works better as an album.

chaki, Wednesday, 15 August 2007 03:00 (eighteen years ago)

Liquid Sunshine is like distilled happiness, man. I did not get to vote in this business, but Funkentelechy v the Placeeb is my favorite album for all times, it swings and bangs so hard. Motor Booty Affair is a respectable second, though, so many great r&b jams on it. Favorite Chocolate City jam is "I Misjudged You", that shit brings the house down in a flood of weeping grandmoms. Surprised Up for the Down Stroke got a handful of votes, that's like saying you like Kobe Bryant's rookie year best cos he won the dunk contest.
