oh crap. sorry, Barenboim. you're underrated, too :(

I voted Furtwangler/La Scala, but only in the remastering on Gebhardt (crappy sound needs as much help as it can get).

I feel like Barenboim will have a good shot at the title when I get it.

hopefully, by the time i'm ready for my next cycle, Testament will have released the Keilberth in a single box.

Yeah I really wanna hear that too. NYPL hasn't come through yet on that one.

Den Ring soll ich haben..

About this line.. Either M. Owen Lee or Bryan Magee was discussing the near impossibility of translating Wagner satisfactorily, and he cited this as the sole line he had encountered where no element of the original was lost. The original line, spoken by Hagen to Alberich in the Gotterdammerung dream sequence, literally translates to, "I shall have that ring." The transator (Andrew Porter, I think) rendered it:

That Ring shall be Hagen's.

It's perfect. Same syllables, vowel placement matches, and it even let's you keep the sinister, low-pitched drawing out of the final 'ah' in Hagen. I like to sing it under my breath when I'm walking around.

I voted for the Solti one, as I reckon it's the one I have. on vinyl. Must listen to all of them sometime. The first two are very enjoyable, though the third one's story is a bit tawdry.
