is my my's "fast freeze" the best techno track of 2007?

this starts with a chilly electro pulse and some dry snares before exploding into a gorgeous and unexpected sequence of jarring synth hits, lush, detuning chords, choral samples, gloopy strings and bleeping arpeggios -- and that's all in the first minute!

i've always rated my my but, seriously, this is kind of a revelation. it straddles the lines between minimal/maximal, icy/lush, electro/techno etc with incredible assuredness. plus it's got these lovely chord changes in the middle that strike me as very italo disco. this is exactly what i want techno to sound like in 2007. by rights, ilx should be going absolutely bananas over this, so... why aren't you?

personally, I dislike this for all the same reasons I sometimes find Booka Shade unbelievably boring and anodyne.

yeah, i get that, but this track has so many more ideas than the typical booka shade track.

is it balearic minimal?

def one of my faves from this year.

I like this for all the reasons you describe ^@^, but it's not even my favorite recent compilation appearance from My My. That would go to their "Southern Comfort" off Famous When Dead V. It's got lovely a guitar and some harp and feels much more like it could be called "balearic minimal" tricky.

Coo I haven't heard this yet.

I was all about to sarcastically go "no, it isn't" until that pitch shift about 3mins in that made me want to hear this in a club as soon as possible.

this is that guy that used to be hefner isn't it! why is he some sort of celebrated techno grandee now when this is the same stuff he's always done.
