Surmounter, Friday, 10 August 2007 03:13 (eighteen years ago)

I voted for "Leave It Open" but could just as easily have chosen the opening tune or the title track.

sleeve, Friday, 10 August 2007 03:16 (eighteen years ago)

i luv how leave it open gets so THICK at the end

Surmounter, Friday, 10 August 2007 03:25 (eighteen years ago)

Suspended in Gaffa will romp this, unless the Sade fans invade the thread.

The Real Dirty Vicar, Friday, 10 August 2007 09:51 (eighteen years ago)

Best vote for it to keep the Sade fans miserable then.

But yeah, this should be as one-sided as the Journey poll.

aldo, Friday, 10 August 2007 10:11 (eighteen years ago)

just gimme it gimme it, gimme-gimme-gimme-gimme!!!

pisces, Friday, 10 August 2007 10:22 (eighteen years ago)

Surmounter, Friday, 10 August 2007 12:58 (eighteen years ago)

I voted for "The Dreaming" but I love everything on this album so I'm fine with whatever.

Tim F, Friday, 10 August 2007 16:10 (eighteen years ago)

A Hounds of Love poll would be much more high-stakes for me: i'd be shattered if I was the only person to vote for "Hello, Earth", but curiously uncomfortable if it won.

Tim F, Friday, 10 August 2007 16:11 (eighteen years ago)

um i would ABSOLUTELY vote for Hello EArth.

i think

Surmounter, Friday, 10 August 2007 16:19 (eighteen years ago)

i remember buying the single of "sat in your lap" and being totally enamoured of it for weeks on end. it just seemed like such a leap from her previous work.

Geir Hongro, Sunday, 12 August 2007 18:00 (eighteen years ago)

the only bad thing about this album is the rubbish black type on white background fucking up the cover

akm, Monday, 13 August 2007 03:52 (eighteen years ago)

such a tough call, but there goes a tenner just to make sure it gets some love.

shanissey, Monday, 13 August 2007 04:02 (eighteen years ago)

Poll Wall (Noodle Vague), Monday, 3 November 2008 09:25 (seventeen years ago)

four months pass...

it's funny cuz it's not obviously like an emotional song, but one day i was listening to it and i really got the emotional intensity of it - the intensity of what it is to be by yourself in your house.

― Surmounter, Wednesday, August 22, 2007 12:25 PM (1 year ago) Bookmark Suggest Ban Permalink

not really sure how i could ever say that "get out of my house" isn't an obviously emotional song...

Surmounter, Tuesday, 31 March 2009 16:26 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, I never really stopped to think what that song might be about, but I guess like many songs, it could be a lot of things. I just love the breathless back-and-forth, barely controlled intensity of the way she sings on that, and it makes it fun to sing along. So dramatic.

Bimble, Tuesday, 31 March 2009 18:39 (sixteen years ago)

how did i miss this poll, what the hell

suspended in gaffa is easily in my top 3 songs all-thyme, right there with hunger strike and total eclipse of the heart

Yeah, my buddy has decided he's totally in love with Kate on the basis of his recent discovery of Hounds of Love, but until he learns to appreciate this album he's not really a Kate fan at all in my book.

still a fucked up album

surm, Thursday, 27 March 2014 00:09 (eleven years ago)

and still one of the best vocal deliveries ever on "if you go, i'll let the law know"

surm, Thursday, 27 March 2014 00:24 (eleven years ago)

Pull Out The Pin, Leave It Open, Sat In Your Lap and There Goes A Tenner are my favorites. This or Aerial must be her best album.

jay., Thursday, 27 March 2014 08:29 (eleven years ago)

wtf @ firstly, me missing this poll and secondly, "leave it open" coming last. easily my pick

lex pretend, Thursday, 27 March 2014 09:08 (eleven years ago)

Definitely. My #1 in the overall Kate Bush poll in Aug 2012!

Michael Jones, Thursday, 27 March 2014 10:48 (eleven years ago)

missed this but it wouldve been "pull the pin" or something from side 2. such a great album.

brimstead, Thursday, 27 March 2014 22:41 (eleven years ago)

yea leave it open is some modern next level shit

to this day i still can't really talk about pull out the pin bc she's too good on it

surm, Friday, 28 March 2014 00:57 (eleven years ago)

glad to see "all the love" represented here -- I mean I'd have voted for get out of my house obviously but that's one of kate's most underrated tracks

katherine, Friday, 28 March 2014 16:03 (eleven years ago)

i RATE it! highhhhhly

surm, Friday, 28 March 2014 16:56 (eleven years ago)

Leave It Open 1

No way!

The Roger Waters Experience (Turrican), Friday, 31 March 2017 20:35 (eight years ago)

Suspended in Gaffa - which has one of the best internal monologues in any pop song ever

Carlotta's Portrait (Ross), Friday, 31 March 2017 21:07 (eight years ago)

It's hard to say what I would have voted for, this is an incredibly strong album. Is it my favourite Kate LP, though? Nah, that would be Never For Ever.

The Roger Waters Experience (Turrican), Friday, 31 March 2017 21:21 (eight years ago)

It's tough but right now Leave it Open seems right.

things that decay things that rust

JoeStork, Friday, 31 March 2017 21:42 (eight years ago)

Houdini.

Max Florian, Friday, 31 March 2017 22:41 (eight years ago)

It feels wrong and crude to pick a favorite from this album, but I guess I'd go with "pull the pin" or the last track.

a but (brimstead), Friday, 31 March 2017 23:03 (eight years ago)

Pull Out the Pin. Very easy choice. The album is a stunner, and it features probably the best use of the Farlight CMI ever

beamish13, Friday, 31 March 2017 23:28 (eight years ago)

I don't know if about best, but when it comes to albums where the Fairlight CMI played a huge role, then The Dreaming and Hounds of Love are definitely in there among the best examples.

The Roger Waters Experience (Turrican), Friday, 31 March 2017 23:41 (eight years ago)

This is impossible; LIO was robbed.

I have decided this album will be my go-to answer for favorite album of all time for the following 3 years.

Incredibly accurate top 4 in this poll

nashwan, Monday, 24 June 2024 18:31 (one year ago)

Marvelous album. Can't believe I've never commented on this thread, I hope I voted in the poll. (Tho no idea how I did if I did, probably GOOMH but possibly the title track.) To me it sits separate even from her other work, it has a musical and psychological density that isn't like any other album.

a man often referred to in the news media as the Duke of Saxony (tipsy mothra), Monday, 24 June 2024 20:35 (one year ago)

I still like it a shade less than Hounds of Love. Maybe the only album in my collection about which I can apply admire-more-than-like.

But I can blast "Houdini" and especially "Get Out of My House" anytime.

I unequivocally adore this album...for me her crowning achievement...some days it could be my favourite ever album...talk about channeling "England's Hidden Reverse"...she was 23 years old when she made it...astonishing

X-Prince Protégé (sonnyboy), Tuesday, 25 June 2024 02:39 (one year ago)

A friend lent me this album when it came out; I had not heard any Kate Bush before. When I returned it a few days later, I remember telling him that it confuses and frightens me now, but I'll probably love it in a few years. Which was true.

Some songs scared me like hearing Meet the Residents for the first time.

Hideous Lump, Tuesday, 25 June 2024 05:13 (one year ago)

At that point Kate had three top 10 hits in the UK charts. So yeah, selling this album as a pop album of a 23 year old “mainstream” artist blows my mind too. It’s one of those albums I can’t believe they exist.

It was a mistake releasing “suspended in gaffa” as the fourth single imho ruining its chances. It is by far the most accesible thing in here.

Also might be an insane suggestion but “get out of my house” should have been a single instead of “there goes a tenner”. Yeah it’s very nightmarish at points but it’s so catchy. It doesn’t seem too much of a jump from the other singles released tbh.
