Is there a list of albums, on the internet or on this board, that contains "backtracking" on the first song of an album? What I mean by "backtracking" (not sure if that's the term, or if there is a term for this) is when you play a cd and rewind backward on a track it reveals more music that was hidden prior to just starting the track at 0:00. (Usually this is noted by the cd player with a -0:01, -0:02, etc.) Most CD's will play these backtracks together with an album if you listen to it all the way through. However not the backtrack of the first song on a CD. A good example of this is Maxwell - Embrya. Before the first song plays you can rewind to reveal a song before the first song! So rather that do this tedious procedure with all my albums, I was wondering if there was already such a list of albums out there with known backtracks before the first song on an album. Also how does this process translate onto an LP. REM's - reckoning has some backtrack after song 8 on the CD into song 9. I imaging on the LP it is just part of song 8 or 9. Also with Maxwell's - Embrya I imagine the hidden song before song 1 on the CD, on the LP its probably song 1.

Queens of the Stone Age - Songs for the Deaf They Might Be Giants - Factory Showroom
It seems like we've done this, but I don't have the slightest idea what the thread title was...

Ok, but I'm not talking about hidden tracks like those tacked on at the end of an album. I am specifically only talking about "backtracking before the first song plays, and there being a song hidden there.
I ask this because its the only thing you will "NOT" hear (if you play an album all the way through) with out backtracking before song 1 plays. Do Queens of the Stone Age and They Might Be Giants albums represent what i am taking about?

Yes, and the list I posted has the types of hidden tracks you describe in addition to the end of the album stuff, including those two.
xpost looks like Alex found a more specific list, there you go.

WTF? There are like 10 albums on that list I have which I didn't know about - Bloc Party's Silent Alarm has a pregap track? I can't get it to work on mine (other cds do work) - or is that list just "on some editions"?
