Girls Aloud's "Sexy! No No No"

Girls Aloud appear to be trapped in some vicious circle of being forced to make ever more steroidal thumping pop than before. I fear for their blood pressure but really like "Sexy! No No No". The lyrics make sense but feel really weird sung aloud. But once you get over that the chorus is fantastically catchy.

Lyrics:

Cos I've been sitting back, no chance of falling, hoping that nothing ever blows (no no)
Boy, did you ever think that loving would be nothing more than walking me home? (no no)
Cos I've been sitting back, no chance of falling, hoping that nothing ever blows (yeah yeah)
Boy, did you ever think that loving would be nothing more than walking me home? (no no)

Did you tell him? No, no, no
Give him kisses? No, no, no
Whisper honey? No, no, no
You're delicious? Hell no!
Were you dancing? No, no, no
Sweet as toffee? No, no, no
You get his number? No, no, no
Get him out for coffee? Hell yeah!

Did you tell him? No, no, no
Give him kisses? No, no, no
Whisper honey? No, no, no
You're delicious? Hell no!
Were you dancing? (Wo-oooh-oooh) No, no, no
Sweet as toffee? No, no, no
You get his number? (Wo-oooh-oooh) No, no, no
Get him out for coffee? Hell yeah, yeah

Yeah, yeah
[Repeat x3]

I can't deny no way my d-d-dirty mind is saying
Lover, come and get me, get me
But for a while I dopped that d-d-dirty style and I discovered
That it's sexy, sexy

But you're knock knock knocking again, boy
Woah oh, good aint good enough, gonna keep you waiting
Knock knock knocking again, boy
Woah oh, get your sugar rush and do a little chasing

Did you tell him? No, no, no
Give him kisses? No, no, no
Whisper honey? No, no, no
You're delicious? Hell no!
Were you dancing? No, no, no
Sweet as toffee? No, no, no
You get his number? No, no, no
Get him out for coffee? Hell yeah!

From top to bottom, I'm a woman sunshine
(No, no, no)
(Whisper honey? No, no, no)
(You're delicious)
Ain't no damn reason you'll be leaving my side
(You get his number? No, no, no)
(Get him out for coffee?)
I give you nothing 'til you show me something, something
(No no no) Something
Cos damn good loving's what I''m really wanting, wanting, (I'm wanting you baby)
(Get him out for coffee)

Hell yeah!
Woo-ooh-ooh
Woo-ooh-ooh

I can't deny no way my d-d-dirty mind is saying
Lover, come and get me, get me
But for a while I dropped that d-d-dirty style and I discovered
That it's sexy, sexy
[Repeat]

Sexy, sexy
Woo-ooh-oo-ooh
[Repeat x2]

Ah, lyrics do matter.

Also it's on youtube, including with a weirdly incorrect karaoke version that was the first version I heard/read and didn't make any sense at all.

Tim F, Sunday, 12 August 2007 14:40 (eighteen years ago)

The lyrics seem to contradict "The Show" to some extent, but I think if anyone can pull off being surprised by the notion that not putting out on the first date can enhance relationship prospects, it's probably Girls Aloud.

Tim F, Sunday, 12 August 2007 14:44 (eighteen years ago)

This sounds exactly how you expect it to sound, btw. I suspect it might be another 'Something Kinda Ooh' in that on first listen I go "well, we've kind of heard them do this before" than becomes an unstoppable monster over time.

Matt DC, Sunday, 12 August 2007 14:58 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt because that's exactly what happened for me with "Something Kinda Ooh". I like the slightly trancey coldness to it though, it's a throwback to "No Good Advice" almost.

Tim F, Sunday, 12 August 2007 15:03 (eighteen years ago)

the intro made me think it was going to do something else entirely so i was a bit disappointed with what it ends up as.

blueski, Sunday, 12 August 2007 15:19 (eighteen years ago)

i think it'll probably sound monster on an actual cd on an actual stereo. obviously it lacks the 'shock of the new' of 'the show' but they know what their internet dude audience wants and they supply it.

I think the song is a bit of a mess. The more I listen to it, the less I like it. That said, I still think it's good.

This song is really awful.

The Brainwasher, Sunday, 12 August 2007 18:14 (eighteen years ago)

really disappointing. this does almost nothing for me when compared to "something kinda ooh", not to even mention the singles prior to that.

johnny crunch, Monday, 13 August 2007 20:11 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah I'm not really finding myself wanting to go back to this. Perhaps it's because every GA banger up to (not including) Something Kinda Ooh sounded utterly storming in a way that was totally different from the one before and all the others. This is the first one where it feels a bit stale.

Matt DC, Monday, 13 August 2007 20:17 (eighteen years ago)

The same sort of poptimism that let me shed my hidebound prejudices and really enjoy prior GA singles has rendered me (apparently) unable to see that it's stale and played, instead leaving me going "Well, that was fun. Hope I hear it on the radio some time!"

'something kinda oooh' was the first one to feel a bit stale, but as it turned out, it's a belter.

Girls Aloud's career seems to be mirroring Basement Jaxx a bit. I bet their new album will be their Crazy Itch Radio.

These girls are kind of gorgeous.

HI DERE, Sunday, 26 August 2007 21:48 (eighteen years ago)

three weeks pass...

this song is excellent.

The lyrics seem to contradict "The Show" to some extent

it's a slightly different situation, the opening premise. also they have self-consciously changed styles.
