ok in the temple strummer doc there's a clip when mr j. is goin on abt keepin up with kids and their new sounds he mentions INTELLECHNO (as a thing that needs keepin up with)

i. did he make this up?
ii. did someone make it up and tell him to fuck with his head?
iii. did i fail to keep up with their kids and their new sound?

(i favour ii)

Did you mean: ENTELECHON

Are you sure he didn't slurringly say "intelligent techno"?

Alex in SF, Monday, 13 August 2007 21:57 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah. Probably meant IDM or something.

THIS IS JOE STRUMMER WE'RE TALKING ABOUT -- he did *not* tell the world to pay attention to IDM, plz, think what yr sayin

(i'm fairly sure the clip is from before there was such a thing anyway)

mark s, Monday, 13 August 2007 22:02 (eighteen years ago)

if IDM had been called intellechno i might have paid attention myself!

"THIS IS JOE STRUMMER WE'RE TALKING ABOUT -- he did *not* tell the world to pay attention to IDM, plz, think what yr sayin"

It seems pretty plausible to me frankly.

they would have been a welcome intrusion in the proceedings

mark s, Monday, 13 August 2007 22:11 (eighteen years ago)

Maybe he was talking about that crusty shit they play at Glastonbury?

there is a genuinely weird bit where KEITH ALLEN of all ppl is saying fondly how "spiritual" joe was: "he was always thinking about incas, and stuff like that"

mark s, Monday, 13 August 2007 22:22 (eighteen years ago)

if i wanted someone to authenticate my spirituality, i would NOT pick keith allen

mark s, Monday, 13 August 2007 22:24 (eighteen years ago)

still hatin on Joe Strummer eh

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 13 August 2007 22:26 (eighteen years ago)

actually JS comes across pretty likeable by the end, tho the doc is very frustrating, as temple is a major dimwit and misses all kinds of interesting stuff right in front of him

i was just wtf when he said "intellechno" -- THIS DOESN'T EXIST

obviously i still hate the clash

mark s, Monday, 13 August 2007 22:30 (eighteen years ago)

i think he got happy at the end bcz he finally came to terms w/how POSH HE WAS -- and he's totally sweet with his daughters

mark s, Monday, 13 August 2007 22:31 (eighteen years ago)

Temple is definitely a major dimwit.

how can you disparage the genius behind Earth Girls Are Easy

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 13 August 2007 22:36 (eighteen years ago)

he was a rockstar who appeared in films, enrique

mark s, Monday, 13 August 2007 22:49 (eighteen years ago)

i remember this bit from the film. i've never heard of intellechno either, but they had all sorts of lame short-lived names for dance genres in the early 90s didn't they? maybe simon reynolds made it up.

BLAME REYNOLDS

mark s, Monday, 13 August 2007 23:13 (eighteen years ago)

he spent about two years working with Richard Norris in the 90s - a likely source for a silly word
