Er, um...should be VOL. 14 rather!

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 15 August 2007 22:34 (eighteen years ago)

It just occurred to me: "Stacy's Mom" is about the Liz Phair character in "Why Can't I?"

I'm not as fond of "Crazy in Love" as most people, but I've grown to like that innocuous Fountains of Wayne tune, so...

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 15 August 2007 22:39 (eighteen years ago)

3 Doors Down are on this one as well.

Herman G. Neuname, Wednesday, 15 August 2007 22:41 (eighteen years ago)

Nickelback, OBV.

It's all about "Wat Da Hook Gon Be?"!! I can't be the only person who still loves it to death.

Did anyone else notice how they ordered the tracks on this volume...frontloaded with R&B, and rock at the end? Did they always do that?

musically, Wednesday, 15 August 2007 22:52 (eighteen years ago)

yes.

gr8080, Wednesday, 15 August 2007 22:57 (eighteen years ago)

Doctor Casino, Thursday, 16 August 2007 00:04 (eighteen years ago)

Mya, more for the video what with the tap dancing and the Jean Seaberg hairdo.

Eric H., Thursday, 16 August 2007 00:23 (eighteen years ago)

i thought lumidee would win in a walk. at least that's who i voted for.

Jordan Sargent, Thursday, 16 August 2007 03:07 (eighteen years ago)

was "where the party at" ever on a now?

Jordan Sargent, Thursday, 16 August 2007 03:07 (eighteen years ago)

This is one of the really rare Now!s where I think the pop rock tracks as many gems as the R&B and hip-hop. "Stacy's Mom" is the best Cars pastiche ever put on disc, and "Girls & Boys," while moronic (TERRIBLE video too) is weirdly addictive, one of the few songs from that genre I could ever stand.

I always thought "Here Without You" was Nickelback! Did they ghost-perform it and give it to Three Doors Down so they could fulfill their one-per-album Now! contract?

Doctor Casino, Thursday, 16 August 2007 03:42 (eighteen years ago)

"Senorita" towers far above any other track on that collection.

ablaeser, Thursday, 16 August 2007 05:05 (eighteen years ago)

"Here Without You" sounds nothing like The Kroeg

Curt1s Stephens, Thursday, 16 August 2007 05:13 (eighteen years ago)

"Suga Suga" = contemptible, and the winner in a very tough heat

rogermexico., Thursday, 16 August 2007 05:30 (eighteen years ago)

"Stacy's Mom" is a GREAT song on an otherwise awful collection.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 16 August 2007 08:40 (eighteen years ago)

i'm keeping my quarter.

Beyoncé featuring Jay-Z : "Crazy In Love"
Mýa : "My Love Is Like...Wo"
Lumidee : "Never Leave You (Uh ohh, uh ohh!)"

I like that the song with the subtitle is not the one anyone would think of if given only the subtitle. That'd earn Jimmy Saville some bonus points back.

And I still love that "wo" title, but as I remember, the song itself was like.. meh.

Mark G, Thursday, 16 August 2007 08:58 (eighteen years ago)

It just occurred to me: "Stacy's Mom" is about the Liz Phair character in "Why Can't I?"

It's more about her character in "Rock Me": I want to play Xbox on your floor

kingkongvsgodzilla, Thursday, 16 August 2007 12:37 (eighteen years ago)

True, or the one in "Little Digger," but they ain't on this list.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 16 August 2007 12:39 (eighteen years ago)

"Suga Suga" = contemptible, and the winner in a very tough heat

Why is it contemptible? It is my pick. It's the most Texan-sounding rap song in existence. It is for cowboys.

1. Baby Bash featuring Frankie J : "Suga Suga"
2. Lumidee : "Never Leave You (Uh ohh, uh ohh!)"
3. Beyoncé featuring Jay-Z : "Crazy In Love"
4. Justin Timberlake : "Senorita"
5. Fountains of Wayne : "Stacy's Mom"

The top four are nothing short of brilliant. "Senorita" could be number one on some of these.
