continuing my tanya solo rediscovery, i broke this out after not having listened to it for years. i had written it off as pretty corny, subpar. of course now, revisiting it, i find the cheesy thing to be more a tanya specific schtick. hard to explain. i think she uses some twee as an interesting tool. b4 i was hesitant with it b/c her previous stuff was more edgy.

i don't think i could ever like this as much as Lovesongs, but true to tanya form, it's working for me after all this time.

now i can appreciate the smoothness of her sound, the way she uses polish as another interesting layer, not a cop-out finish.

I feel the same as you did initially. I'll put it on and reassess. I've been bored by all her post-Lovesongs work - and I really want to like it all!

yes, it is definitely different. but even tho i still feel Lovesongs blows it away, i have more of a taste for it now.

Nope. Still relentlessly dull, lacking the propulsive energy of her debut, or even the quiet strength of the slower numbers on _Lovesongs For Underdogs_. There's maybe 2 solid tracks. I guess I'll be selling this.

i know what u mean, it doesn't come close to Lovesongs, which really blows me away now. but the thing is when i first heard Lovesongs i definitely wasn't blown away. and when i put this on today i definitely liked it more than i did then, so i projected a bit. still tho, not as dull as i remember.

ah, tanya babe. love her on 'real ramona', and i love belly (at least the first album, never heard the second). i have her song "spring rain" i think it's called? on some 4ad comp. it is very nice. does she have more output so well?
