So I finally got around to going to Back in Your Town last night, which is the improv night that Wales and Coxon host at the Red Rose club on Seven Sisters Road. The trumpeter Roy Campbell was the main guest. It was great, actually. Some nice measured evolving pieces, some surprisingly (to me) melodic stuff and a fairly furious drums/electronics/guitar thing, along with lots of scratchy scurrying about. I REALLY don't know too much about all this, but it's just down the road and sounded interesting.

Anyway, there's a bit of talk about those Masses/Amassed things they did here: Thirsty Ear's Blue Series and I think that J Spaceman guitar got talked about too, but has anyone got any of the CDs, been to the shows, got anything else to say, etc.

Oh yeah, http://www.treader.org/, here you go.

They have such nice covers!

Never been to this, never even knew it existed!

It's good. Very low-key and friendly, just a hall really, musicians on the same level as the crowd, everyone sat on plastic chairs, very intimate. Really, really good sound though.

Third Thursday of every month and a fiver to get in, although it's more if someone big comes down, I think.

Oh I've been to the Red Rose loadsa times - me and the other 12 people who usu. turn up - just not to this night, they're usually on Sundays

What goes on on a Sunday then?

Jamie T Smith, Friday, 17 August 2007 13:03 (eighteen years ago)

All sorts!

This gives you some idea. Oh I just noticed it has the Back In YOur Town night on there.

Ahh. I always assumed it just had comedy on, it being the Red Rose comedy club and that. I hadn't realised there was a hotbed of new music on my doorstep. Cool.

But anyway, lets talk about the music...

Who's really impressed you there?

Jamie T Smith, Friday, 17 August 2007 13:16 (eighteen years ago)

Wow. Lemme think. Volcano the Bear, for one. Roger Turner! The Eddie Prevost Trio were good... can't think offhand... there's always something to be taken from a night there
