HI DERE, Friday, 17 August 2007 23:45 (eighteen years ago)

Can't remember any one but Hot With Fleas so there goes my vote. Was one of the more Skinny Puppy-like numbers if I recall correctly.

HANG YOUR HEAD
HANG YOUR HEAD IN SHAME

HI DERE, Friday, 17 August 2007 23:58 (eighteen years ago)

Another vote for Hot With Fleas!

John Justen, Saturday, 18 August 2007 00:12 (eighteen years ago)

Although looking over that list made that harder than I expected.

If it was just songs, I'd probably go with "Harold and Cindy Hospital".

John Justen, Saturday, 18 August 2007 00:17 (eighteen years ago)

Mae West.

moley, Saturday, 18 August 2007 00:18 (eighteen years ago)

I'm in the unexpected position of being the only advocate for Dead Eyes Opened. It feels good.

lukas, Saturday, 18 August 2007 00:19 (eighteen years ago)

That would have been my second choice.

John Justen, Saturday, 18 August 2007 00:20 (eighteen years ago)

Petrol

Romeo Jones, Saturday, 18 August 2007 00:23 (eighteen years ago)

Actually, the only one I actively dislike is "Big Car (remix)"

John Justen, Saturday, 18 August 2007 00:24 (eighteen years ago)

1st half of list >>>>> 2nd half

although I haven't heard those Dead Eyes Opened rmxs ... am i missing anything?

Romeo Jones, Saturday, 18 August 2007 00:25 (eighteen years ago)

No, the remixes are nowhere near as good. Special fact: one of the remixes on the Twister ep is mine. Was an American in Paris ever released as a single? That track invented the Bomb Squad. Kinda.

moley, Saturday, 18 August 2007 00:29 (eighteen years ago)

i want to vote gashing the old mae west, but of course im not going to

Filey Camp, Saturday, 18 August 2007 00:58 (eighteen years ago)

Actually, the only one I actively dislike is "Big Car (remix)"

STONE THE INFIDEL

HI DERE, Saturday, 18 August 2007 03:53 (eighteen years ago)

so difficult. so so difficult. but it's gotta be petrol.

electricsound, Saturday, 18 August 2007 03:54 (eighteen years ago)

on a given day it could be almost any of the first twelve.

also major props to 'hot with fleas' b-side CANINE

electricsound, Saturday, 18 August 2007 03:55 (eighteen years ago)

WHO WILL TELL MY DRUNKEN FRIEND
THAT SHE WILL DIE AND GO TO HELL?

HI DERE, Saturday, 18 August 2007 03:57 (eighteen years ago)

Petrol is technically my favorite song, but lately it's because of all the crazy early versions I've been hearing. I'll decide later.

dan selzer, Saturday, 18 August 2007 04:04 (eighteen years ago)

THERE WAS A LOVER
AND HIS LASS
WITH A HEY HEY NONNY NONNY NO

HI DERE, Saturday, 18 August 2007 04:20 (eighteen years ago)

Coping with Tom's vocals vs not coping very well at all. That's what it comes down to.

moley, Saturday, 18 August 2007 04:25 (eighteen years ago)

i love tom's voice like i love vini reilly's voice. lots.

he was ace when i saw him live last year, but by god i wish his tracks still had pop vocals.

electricsound, Saturday, 18 August 2007 04:39 (eighteen years ago)

EVERYBODY MEET MY MAKER

HI DERE, Saturday, 18 August 2007 04:49 (eighteen years ago)

Heart of the Party. BUT Gashing... is the only one I own as a single...

S-, Saturday, 18 August 2007 05:07 (eighteen years ago)

WE'RE STOPPING AT DENNY'S ALONG THE WAY

that's right, right?

dan selzer, Saturday, 18 August 2007 05:59 (eighteen years ago)

Yes, I think that's right.

moley, Saturday, 18 August 2007 07:07 (eighteen years ago)

I think I've only ever heard Heart of the party, Dead Eyes Opened and um.. what is the hey nonny nonny no song?

I think I'll vote for Heart of the Party, first Sev Heads song I heard.

Trayce, Saturday, 18 August 2007 07:45 (eighteen years ago)

Once "Dead Eyes Opened" was on Rage at ridiculous o'clock in the morning when I was very drunk and tired, and the strobey horrible video clip completely destroyed me. I shut my eyes and I could still see the strobing. I put a blanket over my head and I could still see the strobing. It was at this point I realised thats what these bastards like to do to people's minds. Kind of awesome.

Trayce, Saturday, 18 August 2007 07:49 (eighteen years ago)

btw, a few weeks ago I posted something about the severed heads to my little blog which is acuterecords dot com / blog

I typed it out because everytime I try to post a link it goes all screwy.

dan selzer, Saturday, 18 August 2007 08:42 (eighteen years ago)

On that classic clip, the video guy Stephen Jones is a real treat. Met him at an arty event last night - he is just as dry and urbane as he was back then, and still has that twinkle in his eye.

moley, Saturday, 18 August 2007 09:33 (eighteen years ago)

this is impossible. it is tough to beat "big car" (though original >> remix) or "all saints day" as much as i love the early stuff. out of all of the first/second wave industrial groups that went "pop" i don't think any of them did it better than severed heads. they lost me after rotund though.

tricky, Saturday, 18 August 2007 17:23 (eighteen years ago)

Cuisine was really fucking awesome, though!

PS Trayce: what is the hey nonny nonny no song? = "Halo"

HI DERE, Sunday, 19 August 2007 21:42 (eighteen years ago)

yes

electricsound, Sunday, 19 August 2007 22:29 (eighteen years ago)

'petrol'.

haitch, Sunday, 19 August 2007 23:32 (eighteen years ago)

I think I need to get me some Severed Heads albums. I don't know why I don't own any.

Trayce, Monday, 20 August 2007 00:22 (eighteen years ago)

i will have to check out cuisine again. i am pretty sure i own a copy, but it just never clicked.

tricky, Monday, 20 August 2007 02:48 (eighteen years ago)

out of all of these, the one i have most recently been completely hooked on is "goodbye tonsils". i can't listen to it without playing it several more times. it doesn't feel right to vote for a vocal-less song in this poll though.

tricky, Monday, 20 August 2007 02:51 (eighteen years ago)

OK so it seems theres this new 2 disc compliation coming out called ComMerz. It is up for advabce release on emusic, unfortunately however they've fucked up disc 1 and all the tracks are some other (classical music) thing. Disc 2 is ok though so I've been able to nab a copy of "Heart of the Party". Is this new release remixed/remastered in any way?

Trayce, Monday, 20 August 2007 04:18 (eighteen years ago)

"Heart of the Party" is even more awesome than I had remembered.

Trayce, Monday, 20 August 2007 04:19 (eighteen years ago)

amazon sez it's remastered.

do you guys rate that joakim edit of 'dead eyes opened'? it's faithful to the original but it replaces the distortion bit with these akufen-style glitchy edits. so good.

haitch, Monday, 20 August 2007 04:47 (eighteen years ago)

Is "Greater Reward" supposed to break up rapdidly at the end like that, like yr PC is crapping out? Weird.

Trayce, Monday, 20 August 2007 04:48 (eighteen years ago)

(rapdidly? I appear to have turned into Flanders)

Trayce, Monday, 20 August 2007 04:53 (eighteen years ago)

i don't think so..

yes commerz is newly remastered

electricsound, Monday, 20 August 2007 08:16 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Thursday, 30 August 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

Ack. You sort've HAVE to vote for "Dead Eyes Opened", don't you? It's their "Hot On The Heels Of Love". What version of "Hot With Fleas" was the single - same one as on Bad Mood Guy, or Bulkhead?

Actual Severed Heads track I listen to the most - "Pilot In Hell".

etc, Friday, 31 August 2007 00:22 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Friday, 31 August 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

Good showing for Mae West there.

moley, Friday, 31 August 2007 23:44 (eighteen years ago)

gah i missed this!

"we have come to bless this house" is my favorite severed heads song!

Tracer Hand, Saturday, 1 September 2007 00:36 (eighteen years ago)

Disc 1 of ComMerz got pulled from emusic for some reason dammit :( I wanted the older singles!

Trayce, Saturday, 1 September 2007 00:37 (eighteen years ago)

bless THE house, sorry

http://www.sendspace.com/file/jgxj9o

Tracer Hand, Saturday, 1 September 2007 00:39 (eighteen years ago)

I can't believe no one voted for "Propeller", "Twenty Deadly Diseases" or "Goodbye Tonsils"!

HI DERE, Saturday, 1 September 2007 01:36 (eighteen years ago)

TOO MUCH CHOICE!

stirmonster, Saturday, 1 September 2007 01:40 (eighteen years ago)

commerz disc 1 is missing from emusic due to the wrong album being ripped, so it should be back soon

electricsound, Saturday, 1 September 2007 02:04 (eighteen years ago)

one year passes...

EVERYBODY MEET MY MAKER!

rio (r1o natsume), Wednesday, 18 March 2009 12:59 (sixteen years ago)

^_^

"Big Car" is the foundation for one of my better iTunes Genius playlists; thank you Sevs!

Wes HI DEREson (HI DERE), Wednesday, 18 March 2009 14:05 (sixteen years ago)

(another album track I need to give a shout-out to: "Legion")

Wes HI DEREson (HI DERE), Wednesday, 18 March 2009 14:08 (sixteen years ago)

The best non-single single is "Rental Heart" from Ops 2.0

She Is Beyond Food In Weevil (Mackro Mackro), Wednesday, 18 March 2009 15:55 (sixteen years ago)

It's too bad the 2000-era stuff i.e. laptop-pop era isn't talked about enough. :( The hit/miss ratio isn't as good as the early days, but there are GRAET songs in there.

She Is Beyond Food In Weevil (Mackro Mackro), Wednesday, 18 March 2009 15:55 (sixteen years ago)

been talked about.

Also the Red Martian Remixed By Severed Heads stuff is underrated.
