I'm listening to "Soul of a New Machine" right now, and I remember why I thought this band was so good. I also remember "Demanufacture" being great, and "Obsolete" being pretty awesome, too, despite some tepid reviews.
I thought "Digimortal" was absolutely horrible, and last I heard, they'd broken up, re-formed, and released an album or two which I haven't heard.
I'm tempted to say everything up through "Obsolete" is pretty classic. "Digimortal" is a definite dud, though. Have they gotten better since re-forming?

about half of demanufacture i'd consider classic, as well as 'martyr' from soul of a new machine

everything after that is dumbed down quasi nu-metal shit. i like their cover of cars though.

their first album basically qualifies as death metal. it's alright in a dated, unseasoned kinda way.
otherwise, Replica from Demanufacture still holds up as a good tune.

i dig Genexus quite a bit - it's the same ole formula but I feel like they execute the 80s-pop isms better on this one. not a patch on Obsolete, Demanufacture, etc, but quite good.
revisiting Soul of a New Machine and Burton's voice sounds so strained. This kinda gives me a hint as to why he's always so damn hoarse in concerts - guy has never known how to yell properly even though he sounds badass on disc.

y'know I've never really loved FF live before but tonight they were fucking great.
plus every time I hear "Zero Signal" I time warp back to age 14 when I was listening to the MOrtal Kombat soundtrack on cassette
