Zeno, Tuesday, 21 August 2007 12:48 (eighteen years ago)

haven't listened to this album in soooo long, save for the odd appearance here and there on shuffle...

i'm gonna opt for 'lord only knows'. was my fave back then, and probably still would be

Charlie Howard, Tuesday, 21 August 2007 12:52 (eighteen years ago)

No, wait, I meant to say "New Pollution". Damn.

I got! The hotwax residue!

Finefinemusic, Tuesday, 21 August 2007 18:33 (eighteen years ago)

This thread is a wonderful excuse to listen to the album. Think it might be between Lord Only Knows and Where It's At, although High 5 shuffled its way to my attention again recently and I was very impressed.

Yo tengo chicle en mi cerebro!

Davey D, Tuesday, 21 August 2007 19:13 (eighteen years ago)

I'm on the "Where's It At" bandwagon though "High 5" is a tempting choice. That was a good drum break.

zaxxon25, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 14:50 (eighteen years ago)

this is a very boring album.
No it's not.

"rockin the plastic like a man from the catskills"

I figured this album was going to stay the timeless instant-classic it was proclaimed to be in 1996. In fact I sort of thought it had, because I still love it (although I know it too well now - the surprises are dulled from me playing the thing continuously 1996-1999). But apparently not, as I overheard two 15 y/o Hot Topic types at the record store last week; the one girl goes "I used to have this CD. (pause) It sucks." Looked up out of curiousity and the sucky CD: Odelay. So who knows?

My vote is divided among a thousand great lyrical and sampledelic moments on this CD, only a handful of which have already been quoted on this CD. The best is probably "Who are you? - I'm the enchanting wizard of rhythm." But "Novacane" gets my vote for kicking total ass and for its convincing suggestion of time/place/genre. Plus just some great syllables falling on top of each other.

NOVACAAAAAAAAAAANE!

"Where It's At" was the first video to be played on MTV2.

Now MTV2 doesn't even play videos anymore.

Wow, no love for Hotwax eh? I think it is killer. But then, I still like the album.. I think I will go home and put on this album, in fact.

Finefinemusic, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 20:22 (eighteen years ago)
