Er, who could actually remember which album uses which synth and which drum machine? I love electronic music, but that'd be like geekery on the next level or something.

Before you ask, Tuomas, that means "Owned" in internet speak.
― John Justen, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 22:10 (eighteen years ago)
Before you ask, Tuomas, "Owned" means "Just Got Served" in internet speak.
― John Justen, Wednesday, 22 August 2007 22:11 (eighteen years ago)
Before you ask, Tuomas, "Just Got Served" means "You have been shown to have made an error and shamed accordingly" in American.

Any album/single released between 1983-84 and roughly 1990 and using synths at all would use the DX7.

Jesus Christ! I don't know what's more impressive - Startrekman's tenacity or Curt1s' taking the time to corral all those threads in one place. Either way, I just sit here and marvel. "There but for the grace of..." etc.

The drum boxen I'm not too sure of. wasn't there a simpler version of the LM-1 just called the linndrum, or something? The Linn-9000 played back samples anyway, so might be hard to ID

I should own up to being a complete synth geek, and that list of startrekman's threads includes some of my favourite ILM threads ever.

2,000 dollars, all analog signal path, should be available in 2-3 weeks, apparently.

The wealth of actual answers in this thread really proves how common knowledge all this gear is.

I like to imagine that a parallel universe exists, with a website called "I Love Sci-fi", and some guy calling himself "Prophet5man" starts about 90 threads asking things like "What model phaser did Captain Picard take with him to Rigel-VIII in Episode 44?
― Myonga Vön Bontee, Thursday, 23 August 2007 06:47 (eighteen years ago)
how bout a "what kind of pulse rifle did the Aliens' Space Marines used when they went to LV-451" or "What model and rev of power loader did ripley use to fight the alien queen"
