NO, what about your kids and nostalgia for your snotty early teen years?36
YES, you'll lug them around to storage spaces for the rest of your life and never listen to them. 23

And by the way, the collection is huge. Lots of Spazz, Charles Bronson, Dropdead, Black Army Jacket, CR, Milhouse, etc. etc. Also a healthy amount of cloying anarchist political hardcore garbage.

Looking at it in a mercenary way, the bottom's dropped out of the market for this sort of stuff rather, hasn't it?

DJ Mencap, Saturday, 25 August 2007 08:08 (eighteen years ago)

EVERYTHING comes back eventually. You'll likely regret getting rid of low-run self-produced items.

Soukesian, Saturday, 25 August 2007 14:02 (eighteen years ago)

yeah only sell the shit that is mad expensive

M@tt He1ges0n, Saturday, 25 August 2007 14:22 (eighteen years ago)

I can see that... like the euro pressings of Los Crudos, all the 500press Spazz 7"s, and that "Tomorrow Will Be Worse" boxed set?

I guess the problem is that I really need the money for more records/equipment for myself.

the table is the table, Saturday, 25 August 2007 14:42 (eighteen years ago)

Give them to me!

I do want that Tomorrow Will Be Worse comp.

Colonel Poo, Saturday, 25 August 2007 14:53 (eighteen years ago)

Please start an MP3 blog and upload it all before getting rid of it. Thanks in advance.

unperson, Saturday, 25 August 2007 15:11 (eighteen years ago)

What the hell is "fastcore"?

Alex in NYC, Saturday, 25 August 2007 15:50 (eighteen years ago)

You will regret selling stuff and most of it you won't be able to get back.

Herman G. Neuname, Saturday, 25 August 2007 15:52 (eighteen years ago)

I remember *trying* to sell alot of my old hardcore 7"s several summers ago, but the same places that sold the very same singles on the wall for $35 a pop (stuff like "Halloween" by the Misfits and the "No Policy" e.p. by SOA), wouldn't touch'em with a ten foot barge pole, as they had fuckin' boxloads of'em in the back. Glad I still have them now.

Alex in NYC, Saturday, 25 August 2007 15:52 (eighteen years ago)

I did something similar when I left Michigan a few years back. I asked myself what stuff I would really matter to me in the years to come, and what stuff I could live without. I kept the stuff that was important to me and sold the stuff that wasn't.

Occasionally I regret selling some of that stuff, but I don't even know what I sold. I wish I could listen to it again, but it doesn't keep me awake at night. I kept the stuff that I couldn't live without. I wish I would have held onto some of the techno records, but that is about it.

I agree with Unperson, you should consider posting everything in a mp3 blog. It isn't like any of that stuff is going to be properly reissued for at least a decade.

Display Name, Saturday, 25 August 2007 16:20 (eighteen years ago)

if you have that phobia lp on slap a ham, plz ysi

i advise against this. i miss my old records so much now.

strongohulkington, Saturday, 25 August 2007 16:26 (eighteen years ago)

also do NOT do this because youve gotten heavily into a certain genre over the last few years and think that it is the future and all other music is now worthless to you.

strongohulkington, Saturday, 25 August 2007 16:27 (eighteen years ago)

but at the end of the day you can't really determine what you're going to long for in five or six years, what's going to sound like wack bullshit when you finally hear it again, and what's going to suddenly be all "holy shit, how did i take this for granted/never play this." for instance i have never found myself yearning to hear the "cloying political hardcore anarchist garbage" (econochrist? submission hold? i coulda bought a car...) but i would love to have that charles bronson lp back. or my MITB singles.

strongohulkington, Saturday, 25 August 2007 16:31 (eighteen years ago)

When I had to deal with the OH NOES MOVING VINYL moment a little over a year ago, I recruited a friend that was a fellow vinyl geek that I trusted and told him that the records were on loan until further notice. He came and picked them up, and at the point where I have space for them/want them back, I can get them.

John Justen, Saturday, 25 August 2007 16:32 (eighteen years ago)

Also STRONGOTM.

John Justen, Saturday, 25 August 2007 16:32 (eighteen years ago)

yeah, I regret most of my sales and I have stopped selling vinyl in particular. the last few years have seen me rebuying all the 80's new wave I traded in for noise imports in the late 80's.

sleeve, Saturday, 25 August 2007 16:37 (eighteen years ago)

I voted for you to keep them, but I'll buy some of that if you do sell it. I LOVED Black Army Jacket!

If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Saturday, 25 August 2007 17:20 (eighteen years ago)

Go ahead and sell them to me.

roxymuzak, Saturday, 25 August 2007 17:30 (eighteen years ago)

also strongo otmx2

roxymuzak, Saturday, 25 August 2007 17:31 (eighteen years ago)

all right, i think i see where this poll is going.

also strongo, i've sort of thought about what you mention, too-- getting into a certain genre so much that one loses sight of older things for a while. there actually ARE some records that i still love, like the Festival of Dead Deer record, or Born Against (the only political group worth fucking with). will keep the Dropdead LPs forever, if only because they were my favorite band for several years. but jesus, so much of the Spazz stuff is such garbage.

one thing for sure selling is that Minor Threat Live 45. Live at Buff Hall, in Camden, NJ.

my MITB records are... forever lost? i haven't seen them in years, even when i did an inventory of all this stuff a few years ago. which is totally awful-- all i remember is that one of them was white vinyl, and all about vivisection.

a blog is a good idea.

the table is the table, Saturday, 25 August 2007 21:07 (eighteen years ago)

also, "fastcore"= a derivative for of hardcore, started in the early to mid 80s by bands such as Kuro, Urban Waste and Deep Wound. Fastcore is closely related to thrashcore and powerviolence.

mostly japanese bands. Kuro are probably the best place to start, though if you know what Infest sounded like, you have a good idea-- not too many breakdowns or cookie monster vocals, cleaner more reverbed guitars.

the table is the table, Saturday, 25 August 2007 21:12 (eighteen years ago)

oh another group worth saving everything of is Behead the Prophet NLSL. what a fucking awesome band.

the table is the table, Saturday, 25 August 2007 21:12 (eighteen years ago)

The dude from that band was also in Noggin. Noggin were great.

If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Saturday, 25 August 2007 22:03 (eighteen years ago)

Noggin were really good!

my favorite BTPNLSL track, tho, is from the "Making Craters.." EP, the "There is A Bomb in Gilead and it's waiting to go off" track.

the table is the table, Saturday, 25 August 2007 22:08 (eighteen years ago)

Sounds like there is Ebay $$ to be made here if you want to go that route (and can do it right).

Romeo Jones, Sunday, 26 August 2007 20:52 (eighteen years ago)

Sell it for sure.

Personally, I tend to get rid of anything that hasn't piqued my interest in the last year or two -- it keeps my collection reasonably sized, and makes for a shelf full of stuff that I absolutely love in the present. I see no reason for nostalgia, it's pointless to me, and I understand that's an individual thing. Nostalgia is everything to some people, but to me it's empty.

Over the years I've owned in the ballpark of 2500 to 3000 CDs and currently have about 960 at last count. I'm 22 years old.

stephen, Sunday, 26 August 2007 21:00 (eighteen years ago)

i loved BTPNLSL in high school! quel blast from the past! thanks for uploading these, table

roxymuzak, Sunday, 26 August 2007 21:24 (eighteen years ago)

One of the dudes from Behead the Prophet NLSL is now a traveling vegan chef. He goes on "tour" and cooks up these huge, amazing meals. I think he has some cookbooks out.

theboyqueen, Sunday, 26 August 2007 22:39 (eighteen years ago)

Good god, man! I'm 40 and I've got about 4000 CDs and sold about another 1000 since I got into music at 17. And I feel like I buy ALOT of CDs! You must've sold off entire genres as this point, how can you have bought that many CDs by 22?

SELL THESE SHITS YESTERDAY

HI DERE, Monday, 3 September 2007 02:20 (eighteen years ago)

I voted for SELL, b/c I now think that it's important to be less atached to 'stuff,' especially stuff that's not relevant to yr everyday life. even music.

davelus, Monday, 3 September 2007 02:29 (eighteen years ago)

That hilarious about the traveling cooking!

roxymuzak, Monday, 3 September 2007 13:47 (eighteen years ago)

Ignore these hippies - keep yer punk vinyl!

Soukesian, Monday, 3 September 2007 20:40 (eighteen years ago)

Hippies? The guy from one of the bands he listed is a traveling vegan chef.

How many of the 23 who voted to sell them were people who wanted to buy some off you? lol
