it was like watching the ugly duckling turn into a beautiful swan -- a group dude that started out sounding like a noisy lounge act impersonating the Birthday Party Jodeci grew up to be the shoegazing slowjamming wonderfulness that so many ILMers love to pieces.

can't decide between: Blackberry Molasses, Slow Down, and Pimpin' All Over The World
also worthy of a few votes: Tell Me, Anonymous
everything else kinda sucks, but I didn't realize he had so many decent songs!

Alex in Baltimore, Sunday, 26 August 2007 22:21 (eighteen years ago)

god yeah he is ridiculously forgettable!

'tell me' = soooo overrated imo, and i might even have said similar about 'slow down' if the chorus hadn't leapt right back into my head as soon as i saw the title. THEREFORE IT IS CLASSIC. still can't recall a thing about the beat tho. fucking tim&bob!!

i quite like 'anonymous' now.

might give it to 'blackberry molasses'? on the uniquely depressing vote.

r|t|c, Monday, 27 August 2007 01:08 (eighteen years ago)

yeah "Anonymous" has really really grown on me, it kinda leaps out of the radio in a way that most new Timbo stuff doesn't, to my ears.

Alex in Baltimore, Monday, 27 August 2007 01:20 (eighteen years ago)

i'm still weirdly hesitant to flat-out support it, but nobrainerwise it's a/ chirpier than most things on the radio and b/ you can have a cracking singalong to it. i guess that should be enough?!

r|t|c, Monday, 27 August 2007 01:32 (eighteen years ago)

perhaps it is just the whole pulling against timbaland's massively boring gravitational pull thing, yeah

r|t|c, Monday, 27 August 2007 01:40 (eighteen years ago)

"Tell Me" is obviously the best one. That song is 10/10 classic.

The Brainwasher, Monday, 27 August 2007 02:01 (eighteen years ago)

anonymous is excellent but im going with slow down. a+ beat, you generic behind the scenes beat guys who have somehow sold 1 zillion records.

strongohulkington, Monday, 27 August 2007 02:40 (eighteen years ago)

I went with "Blackberry Molasses," guys. Incredible song.

Alex in Baltimore, Monday, 27 August 2007 04:29 (eighteen years ago)

Wait, are they really saying "the sun don't rain all the time"!?!? What a stupid lyric, I want to change my vote.

Alex in Baltimore, Monday, 27 August 2007 04:33 (eighteen years ago)

pimpin all over the world

Jordan Sargent, Monday, 27 August 2007 04:52 (eighteen years ago)

Anonymous. My fave RnB track of 2007. So far.

Christyles, Monday, 27 August 2007 08:10 (eighteen years ago)

RTC NOT OTM shocker - "Tell Me" is excellent. However I like "Give Me A Chance" most of all I think ("Pimping All Over the World" is brilliant and best but it's more Luda than Bobby) - then "Rearview Ridin" I think.

"Slow Down" and "Hey Babe" (his duet with Shareefa) are also great.

What is annoying about Bobby V is that his crap stuff sounds exactly like his fabulous stuff - faced with the difficulty of explaining the difference, it's easy for the brain to just shut down and dismiss it all.

Tim F, Monday, 27 August 2007 08:12 (eighteen years ago)

i like that timbo is making beats for him. for timbo's sake not bobby's that is.

Jordan Sargent, Monday, 27 August 2007 08:58 (eighteen years ago)

t/s anonymous v. ice box

Jordan Sargent, Monday, 27 August 2007 09:02 (eighteen years ago)

haha i knew i'd get a shoeing for that.

r|t|c, Monday, 27 August 2007 10:05 (eighteen years ago)

I've been deferring to your opinions all week so it was inevitable. If it makes you feel better I kind of go on a pro-generic kick in my Amerie review.

Tim F, Monday, 27 August 2007 10:08 (eighteen years ago)

seriously tho, i could never fathom why that little timbobland era captivated people so when it seemed like just the most banal conclusion to years of cosy ethnofetishistic mood music wibbling. tho strangely it's actually not that explicit in its easternism when you listen to it - in this and many other respects (not least in them both getting my goat) 'tell me' is pretty much the rnb 'get to poppin', or at least the version if it before it successfully went back to the drawing board.

r|t|c, Monday, 27 August 2007 10:27 (eighteen years ago)

i just demand more from my terraformed dreamscapes ok!

The Lex RIP

Dom Passantino, Monday, 27 August 2007 10:29 (eighteen years ago)

on the subject of pixelballs i have to say tho, that one chance 'look at her' megamix is too, too ridiculous not to love.

r|t|c, Monday, 27 August 2007 10:40 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

For me, the appeal of the Tim&Bob productions I really like is not so much their eastern promise as how they bring the drama - "Tell Me" is just ridiculously OTT, especially given his lyrics, while on "Give Me A Chance" that etheral pipe sound they use isn't so much evocative of exoticism as it is a kind of hyper-mystical purity, like Bobby is the God of the Rising Sun, come to redeem you for all your past neck-snapping.

I never saw this thread. "Blackberry Molasses" is just about the most classicest thang-thang ever.

The Reverend, Saturday, 5 January 2008 16:01 (eighteen years ago)

I went with "Blackberry Molasses," guys. Incredible song.
