Black Metal: Whitest Genre Ever?

(inspired by this.)

I mean, I can easily name black artists in other subgenres of metal (death, grindcore, classic "heavy" metal, etc.), black punk bands, black indie bands, and even black country musicians, but there does not seem to be a single black black metal artist. I mean, NSBM might be a factor here, but then again, there are far more Satanists than Nazis in the BM scene, and that hasn't prevented Christians from forming their own bands. There are a handful of Japanese bm bands, but other than that, this stuff (unlike, say, death metal) seems to be confined to Europe, Australia, and North America. Is there any African or South American black metal, and if so, does it incorporate African or Latino folk music? (Probably not, but it's an interesting idea.)

"There are a handful of Japanese bm bands"

"Whitest Genre Ever?"

and, yes, there are south american black metal bands. and black metal bands all over asia. and in israel. and turkey. and elsewhere.

there has never been a very large percentage of black africans, black europeans, or african americans who have made metal.

okay?

but, really, the answer is polka.

scott seward, Monday, 27 August 2007 16:45 (eighteen years ago)

What about all that Mexican music that sounds just like polka?

Deiphago from the Phillipines is one of the most ruthless BM bands around right now

if "white" means "absence of black people" then yes, there are many black guys playing black metal, but there are loads & loads of Asian and Latin American BM bands

Geir Hongro, Monday, 27 August 2007 20:01 (eighteen years ago)

Probably the whitest genre ever is Nazi hardcore.

Hurting 2, Monday, 27 August 2007 20:04 (eighteen years ago)

Hey, I really liked those Animus Mortis songs. Thanks for the link.

Prank call was dumb and offensive. Thread subject is stupid: Question answered within two posts.

It's either schlager or this "white-people music" everyone on ILM is always talking about.

As John D said, lotsa black metal in the Philippines. We like Coup De Grace:

There is a hardcore grassroots scene/fanzine commitment thing going on with Philippines BM which is evident in the clip.

There's also some heroic BM in Iraq, I'm told. Now that's taking a big risk.

moley, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 11:22 (eighteen years ago)

I'd nominate humpa as the whitest genre ever. Could be wrong.

moley, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 11:23 (eighteen years ago)
