Many of the french disco heads will remember and love "Discopolis", tho I think the Stars33 "I Feel Music In Your Heart" remix from last year is their crowning moment. However, several great mixes and tracks this year as well:
LCDS - North American Scum (Kris Menace mix) Roisin Murphy - Overpowered (Kris Menace mix) Air - Mer du Japon (Kris Menace mix) Tracey Thorn - It's All True (Kris Menace mix) Lifelike - So Electric Alan Braxe & Kris Menace - Lumberjack
what more recent? what say you??

Alan Braxe & Kris Menace - Lumberjack
ahhh i'll have to search that out, I think I've only heard Discopolis (on the Rub N Tug Fabric)
Kris Menace sounds like a drum 'n' bass name

Air - Mer du Japon (Kris Menace mix)
This is outrageously great.
― jamescobo, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 19:26 (eighteen years ago)
yeah I love that track
― Dominique, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 19:34 (eighteen years ago)
Lifelike's 'My Precious Diamond' (based on Fox The Fox ala Michael Mayer's 'Amanda') still a fave
'Lumberjack' grew on me a lot the last couple of months but I liked it anyway - rushy.
― blueski, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 19:45 (eighteen years ago)
French house & filterdisco
"voyage" from last year is pretty good.
― gr8080, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 19:49 (eighteen years ago)
search: Lifelike remixes of Geyster's "Under the Fuse of Love" and Ercola feat. Annie's "Follow Me".
on a similar old school french house tip, check out Puzique's slammin' "Don't Go" (about to become a club smash, apparently).
― Mind Taker, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 19:55 (eighteen years ago)
theres a KC Creosote remix by that Kris Menace bloke posted on a blog not too far away from here. unfortunately, the version provided seemed to be cut off at the end. still you can't complain when you dont pay really.
― mark e, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 19:58 (eighteen years ago)
mark e: luv that jjackson thing.

sorry gr8080, tis another 'mark e'. my lawyers have contacted him, but so far to no avail.

discopolis = one of the best songs of the last couple yrs i think
― deej, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 21:53 (eighteen years ago)
These guys can be so hit or miss, but I do enjoy their comfort filter disco muchly when they are on.
― Michael F Gill, Tuesday, 28 August 2007 21:54 (eighteen years ago)
iiii don't know about this stuff. i checked out the stars on 33 thing on their myspace a while ago and had to shut it off. the idris muhammad original is so gorgeous i couldn't deal with just that bit of vocal looped over and over with a big dumb house beat added to it. and i don't even always hate that kind of music!
discopolis is okay i guess. voyage is mr master's dog in the night looped over and over. i haven't bothered to check out the newer items.
― jaime, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 00:59 (eighteen years ago)
how is discopolis any different than ibiza trance hits 33?
― jaxon, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 01:22 (eighteen years ago)
or is that hip now? the whole nu balearic thing and all? not that i know what's hip in dance music circles. i haven't bought a record past '86 in years.
― jaxon, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 01:25 (eighteen years ago)
'discopolis' and '...music in your heart' are both really fantastic, something about a lot of the other kris menace productions rubs me the wrong way for some reason though and i can't work out why.
vicarious bliss 'theme from vicarious bliss' (lifelike goes to disco mix) <- this is good.
― haitch, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 02:07 (eighteen years ago)
search: of course discopolis and i feel music... and also lifelike - the cult, high on, obsession, waves nu-matic - in the morning (lifelike mix) kris menace - jupiter unai - blissful burden (kris menace mix) roman salzger & lifelike: radio 84 lifelike - running out (roman salzger mix)
and trilogyy - apocolypse rock (menace, serge santiago, someone else i can't remember
they are often pretty bland/dull but at their best (and their best is pretty damn huge and godlike) it's peak level shit.
jaxon is right it's all trance played at cool cosmic speed

Apart from beats, sonics, tempo, melody and not being trance, you mean?
That Discopolis video is so pervy I'm surprised the record didn't make #1 in 33 countries.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 08:17 (eighteen years ago)
my searches would be: discopolis, blissful burden rmx, overpowered rmx. i'm on the fence re the air rmx.

it just uses a french house sound palette & eq tricks. does anyone rate any of the discopolis remixes?
― tricky, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 18:06 (eighteen years ago)
the like the drums on the braxe mix
― Dominique, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 18:07 (eighteen years ago)
also cf. the bridge from dennis parker's "like an eagle" (or other similar disco tracks) with the main synth lead in "discopolis"
― tricky, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 18:13 (eighteen years ago)
Lumberjack is fantastic, by the way.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 19:10 (eighteen years ago)
does anyone rate any of the discopolis remixes?
The Hundred Birds "Bestless" ("beatless"?) one is unaccountably pretty, albeit probably not so much when it comes to the dancing. I kinda think that's why I like it so much, though - the original was such an unimpeachable dancefloor monster that most of the other remixes (esp. the relatively-beloved Chris Lake one) suffer by comparison. The Hundred Birds one manages to sidestep the whole argument quite adroitly while remaining a genuinely stunning track.
― jamescobo, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 20:19 (eighteen years ago)
that lumberjack track is four minutes of needless expository navelgazing bullshit covering up two minutes of rich nougat-y amazingness

could it be considered a crossover hit?
its much more subtle than most current trance.
― gr8080, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 20:31 (eighteen years ago)
it also sounds much more like disco
― deej, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 20:32 (eighteen years ago)
i mean i havent listened to too much trance so maybe i'm misunderstanding what that shit sounds like, but i've never heard a trance song that has a bassline like that
a lot of trance (not necessarily progressive/tech house) is built around huge basslines/drops.
subtle??? yeah as subtle as yr steely dan polls. ;-)
― tricky, Wednesday, 29 August 2007 20:43 (eighteen years ago)
first of all, the chris lake mix is weak-ass
ok there are big trance riffs and arpeggios all over this stuff but the tempo is completely house as are the basslines. are them thin white duke mixes of starsailor, texas, etc. ibiza too?
"apocolypse rock", y'all, it's the big synth horn riff from "it's a war" mercilessly pummeling into your skull
― babedad, Thursday, 30 August 2007 00:46 (eighteen years ago)
are them thin white duke mixes of starsailor, texas, etc. ibiza too?
i would say yes, even more so, but two years ago obv.

Does anyone live somewhere sunny and have a back garden with a pool where we can drink cocktails and invite girls along and play that compilation in its entirety?
― David Bentley: Rhythm Ace (Matt DC), Wednesday, 25 February 2009 23:15 (seventeen years ago)
this comp is so fantastic... matt dc otm!too bad no appearance of "i feel music in your heart" but there is more than enough gold here to make up for it
more search:disco boys - "hey saint peter" (menace & adam remix) i usually don't like this kind of "somebody's watching me" geico remix crap, but this hooked me maybe due to menace bias.. it's kind of like "radio fireworks" by surkin.. i just think menace's productions are so full-bodied..loaded with fireworks and a big bottom end.
heartache - "numb" (kris menace remix)another huge awesome riff for when you burn out the 3cds
i repeat babedad's recommendations above; lifelike leans more on the crydamoure-ish filterdisco tip but the electrifying tranced-out "ADVENTURE/HIGH ON" is still the best for beating the shit out of aliens or chasing after shoplifters

yeah that metronomy remix is brilliant, also worth searching out the instrumental, just as powerful without vocals

Hey stardude. You're probably the best person to ask. I'm trying to remember a possibly French house/techno pop video where a crew of teenagers drive along the countryside in a beater and just have a gay ol' time. Anyone? It's a really nice nostalgic type video.
