Now 'Chairs Missing', though even a few months ago I would have said 'Pink Flag'. But I'm getting older and older, I think. '154' is definitely worse than the first two.

zeus, Thursday, 30 August 2007 10:02 (eighteen years ago)

cuet pics!

poortheatre, Thursday, 30 August 2007 10:55 (eighteen years ago)

CM > PF > 154

also..

"Outdoor Miner" >>> "Mannequin" > "Map Ref."

poortheatre, Thursday, 30 August 2007 11:01 (eighteen years ago)

Mannequin >>> most songs ever written by anyone

Colonel Poo, Thursday, 30 August 2007 11:13 (eighteen years ago)

So difficult, but Chairs Missing for me. 154 nearly takes it for "Map Ref..." alone though...

Neil S, Thursday, 30 August 2007 11:15 (eighteen years ago)

Quit fuckin' around. It's Pink Flag.

Kevin John Bozelka, Thursday, 30 August 2007 11:15 (eighteen years ago)

No it's not, it's "154"

Tom D., Thursday, 30 August 2007 12:12 (eighteen years ago)

I'm guessing it'll go CM, PF, 154 but then hey!

Mark G, Thursday, 30 August 2007 12:39 (eighteen years ago)

I don't know why "154" isn't more popular, I blame those Americans and their punk rock obsessions

Tom D., Thursday, 30 August 2007 12:41 (eighteen years ago)

The first two are more immediate, the 3rd one opens up.

yes.

Mark G, Thursday, 30 August 2007 13:06 (eighteen years ago)

Pink Flag doesn't have "Mercy" or "A Touching Display," so it wins.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Thursday, 30 August 2007 13:13 (eighteen years ago)

Pink Flag > 154 > Chairs Missing

kornrulez6969, Thursday, 30 August 2007 13:30 (eighteen years ago)

Pink Flag doesn't have "Mercy" or "A Touching Display," so it wins.

154 has some duff.

153

Mark G, Thursday, 30 August 2007 15:10 (eighteen years ago)

154 = Less reactionary, more experimental, interesting. Better tunes. Etc.

Bob Standard, Thursday, 30 August 2007 15:11 (eighteen years ago)

12Xu>outdoor miner.
Although I've grown to love Chairs missing more and more, Pink flag is closer to perfection, imo

outdoor_miner, Thursday, 30 August 2007 15:13 (eighteen years ago)

CHAIRS MISSING

chaki, Thursday, 30 August 2007 18:27 (eighteen years ago)

hey, poll thread: Keep up!

Mark G, Friday, 31 August 2007 08:42 (eighteen years ago)

154 for me.

Trayce, Friday, 31 August 2007 09:28 (eighteen years ago)

154 for me, also.

PhilK, Saturday, 1 September 2007 14:55 (eighteen years ago)

I thought it was a well-known fact that Chairs Missing was the best of the three.

brightscreamer, Saturday, 1 September 2007 15:15 (eighteen years ago)

ILX polls: Challenging the well-known facts!

Mark G, Saturday, 1 September 2007 18:26 (eighteen years ago)

I hadn't realised I'd made this poll to run for so long!

Mark G, Monday, 3 September 2007 08:37 (eighteen years ago)

http://pinkflag.com/

Oh, but then I wouldn't have had the chance to mention here, the new superduper Wire site!

Mark G, Monday, 3 September 2007 09:52 (eighteen years ago)

PF. Didn't care much for the rest. Spank me.

nathalie, Monday, 3 September 2007 09:53 (eighteen years ago)

Actually it's Pink Flag I don't care for at all.

Ooh. Chairs Missing vs. 154. You're really challenging me now. Thank goodness I've got until the 13th to decide.

Bimble, Monday, 3 September 2007 10:15 (eighteen years ago)

Although you should have made the poll end on The 15th, of course. :)

Bimble, Monday, 3 September 2007 10:19 (eighteen years ago)

I don't think I'll regret any vote I make today (even if I favor a different one tomorrow or next week), because I love all three.

Chairs Missing it is.

Do we get a 80s Wire poll next?

Johnny Fever, Monday, 3 September 2007 10:22 (eighteen years ago)

Should do, shouldn't we?

After this one closes.

Mark G, Monday, 3 September 2007 10:23 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

ILX System, Tuesday, 11 September 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

CM > PF > 154

the 15th > three chord rhumba > outdoor miner

6335, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 06:00 (eighteen years ago)

154

estela, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 07:37 (eighteen years ago)

This poll could go one of three ways, really!

Mark G, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 08:03 (eighteen years ago)

i'm still trying to decide between chairs missing and 154.

i think i'm going to go for chairs missing.

or am i?

fuck.

grimly fiendish, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 08:27 (eighteen years ago)

go for 154

jabba hands, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 08:28 (eighteen years ago)

i did. and i thought i'd posted a summary of my reasoning. which was, basically: "chairs missing" is the acme of the MK I wire sound, but 154 hints at the explosion of genius to come, not only with 80s wire (which i rate much more highly than the first three albums anyway) but with all the various side projects and explorations of sound. so yeh, 154 it is.

grimly fiendish, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 15:14 (eighteen years ago)

you're totally right about 154 hinting at the explosion of genius to come, grimly, except that all 154 does is hint, and so I'll take The Ideal Copy or, better, The A List over 154.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 15:17 (eighteen years ago)

oh, absolutely. hell, i'd take "a bell is a cup" over any of the first three ... but usually when i say that people start backing away and muttering and so on.

grimly fiendish, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 15:30 (eighteen years ago)

... saying that has made me think of "naked, whooping and suchlike". heh.

grimly fiendish, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 15:30 (eighteen years ago)

what the hell people, it's pink flag

Mr. Que, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 15:38 (eighteen years ago)

.-.-!

(also, A Bell is a Cup is the best second-period Wire album. Just so we can avoid having a second poll)

I eat cannibals, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 19:30 (eighteen years ago)

you might be right, BUT WE'RE HAVING A POLL.

grimly fiendish, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 19:59 (eighteen years ago)

Chairs Missing. It's a little bit Pink Flag, and a little bit 154.

dan selzer, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 20:36 (eighteen years ago)

are we fans of the MBV cover of 'Map Ref'?

poortheatre, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 22:45 (eighteen years ago)

We sure are!

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 22:48 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

ILX System, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 23:01 (eighteen years ago)

LOL

chaki, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 23:02 (eighteen years ago)

poortheatre, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 23:05 (eighteen years ago)

If it's like the last time open this in IE and there will be small pics and you can get the url to work it out (hopefully)

Herman G. Neuname, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 23:06 (eighteen years ago)

btw I forgot to vote and would've voted http://www.posteverything.com/2006/10/17/16694/4m509_76.jpg

Herman G. Neuname, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 23:08 (eighteen years ago)

ha, too late now ;)

grimly fiendish, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 23:26 (eighteen years ago)

man, everyone came out for this one.

poortheatre, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 23:44 (eighteen years ago)

154 will have its revenge

stephen, Wednesday, 12 September 2007 23:46 (eighteen years ago)

Wow, lotsa votes!

OK, will see about the wire phase 2 albums

Mark G, Monday, 17 September 2007 13:16 (eighteen years ago)

five years pass...

hmm.

I think that was 'in date order' in the end: Pink Flag, Chairs Missing, 154...

Mark G, Monday, 13 May 2013 11:12 (twelve years ago)

I've changed my mind, now I'd vote "Pink Flag"

Bees Against Racism (Tom D.), Monday, 13 May 2013 11:14 (twelve years ago)

Chairs Missing is pretty much my favourite album by anyone.

lazulum, Monday, 13 May 2013 12:53 (twelve years ago)

three years pass...

Revive to post my personal top thirty.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 19 December 2016 03:52 (nine years ago)

picture icons long gone, so it's anyone's guess what won this

Dr X O'Skeleton, Tuesday, 20 December 2016 01:20 (nine years ago)

Yeah, that's perfect. I imagine 154 was 3rd tho.

The Doug Walters of Crime (Tom D.), Tuesday, 20 December 2016 01:37 (nine years ago)

Pink Flag, Chairs Missing, 154...

...which is the reverse of what it should be :p

illbient microtonal poetry Surbiton (imago), Tuesday, 20 December 2016 14:03 (nine years ago)

I mean, coming at this in retrospect, Pink Flag is a diverting weird-punk experiment, Chairs Missing is suddenly wonderful and 154 is utterly mindblowing

...imo

illbient microtonal poetry Surbiton (imago), Tuesday, 20 December 2016 14:05 (nine years ago)

That's what I used to think.

tl;dr

Stars on 45, Where Are You? (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 20 December 2016 14:23 (nine years ago)

But skimmed and will read later. Liked the intro as well as the phrase "histrionic austerity" and your ranking is agreeable to me.

Stars on 45, Where Are You? (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 20 December 2016 14:25 (nine years ago)

I blame the result of this poll on these punk rockers, with their spitting and their antics.

The Doug Walters of Crime (Tom D.), Tuesday, 20 December 2016 14:27 (nine years ago)

Can't see the pics so don't know what the result was

Not sure in which thread to stick this, so let's try here. Ranking Wire.
