If you stumbled into a 7-times platinum jam-funk-pop record, whose idea is to come back scatting?

"Cleopatra's Cat" is the most regrettable single following up a multiplatinum breakthrough in history.
That I can think of right now at least.

Further to early-90s party-rock thread: at what point did it cease to be possible for bar bands to release popular major-label records?
(I don't doubt that plenty of today's popular major-label folks were bar bands along the way, but it seems like beyond some point in the 90s you'd be playing Serious Shows in some sort of "local rock scene," not being the bloozy house/jam band where the ordinary people of your state are like "what's going on at Shooter McNabb's tonight? Oh man, the Cheez Weezles are playing, let's get drunk and do some dancing!")

The big one at my college was called BUMPUS, and has since given the world Rachel Yamagata, so maybe I'm off base.

Bumpus and Cheez Weezles with special guests Claw Jockey the Hanging Chads and Deep Banana Blackout
And the Moaning Lisas, of course. Hi, Jim!

To my knowledge I have never heard "Cleopatra's Cat" before now.

The next time someone tells me that weed has no harmful side-effects, I will say "this was the lead single to the Spin Doctors' second album" and play them this video

I just listened to this song for the first time in 20 years last week. this has to be one of the oddest, most poorly chosen singles in history. I'm actually surprised the record company allowed this.
