New Britney Spears

I approve.

It's good and surely it will do well on the radio, but it's not blow-you-away-oh-my-god amazing. Perhaps her management is going for the decent 1st single that will do well on the virtue that it's Britney's comeback single, and then a great follow-up that doesn't sound like 500 songs heard on R&B radio the last couple years.

This is a lot better than "Get Fuckin' My Back." But I agree with musically, this is a "Me Against The Music" type single, competent, certainly danceable, catchy, but not groundbreaking. CROSS FINGERS that the followup is the "Toxic" of 2007.

But is ten times better than MATM! That background synth on the chorus is just amazing. It's not "Toxic" but at this point I'd say it's my second fav Britney song.

Love the NES-ness of the backing track. Reminding me a lot of The Firehawk Saga by Bootleg Blitzkrieg.

Better than Sexyback (but then again, every noise is) and I can actually still see it being a hit.

It's amazing how much mileage the "It's/I'm ________, bitch." still has.

this is so informed by Sexyback it's ridic but i quite like the chorus. i hope the video is her in Barcelona being a covert agent but done with a BLUE tint.

I mean, ffs, she (or her reps) even failed to return Ne-Yo's calls. Do people actually care enough to go out and buy this single (or album)?

The demon-voiced Britney saying "mawwwre" during the chorus is not to be underestimated. This just feels much more vital than I expected. I'm not a huge Britney follower (as much as one can not be a Britney follower) and I wasn't even trying to keep up, but this just blew me back.

And then you get reports from other people like T-Pain who said that she was nothing but sweet and completely professional to work with. Maybe it's just me but I always get the feeling that Britney is someone people secretly want to see succeed. besides, people are very easily taken by a good dance video/live show, let's hope she can still do that at least. Even if she'll still lipsync her way through it, her fans won't care - the girl never could sing, that's not why people love her. it'll all come down to that rumoured VMAs perf coming up, probably.

look around the usual haunts, second song "Cold as Fire" is even more Body Language Kylie. It's not quite as good as "Gimme More" though. "Toxic" aside, she doesn't really do the high-pitched thing very well.

people really LOVEd Toxic. i mean, but notice when she's gettin all high pitched on Toxic it's completly computergasmic. the moany-at-the-notes thing is still there the rest of the song. in any event, i don't have a problem with her moaning, it's fine wit me =)

the mix is fantastic, couldn't tell until the remix. TI attacks the track like he doesn't know it's someone else's(does he?) -- as it should be

"Baby Boy" is a cool song. Surprisingly spooky and affecting ballad (!). Love the distorted music box sounds.

Did she put more than 15 minutes into recording this? It might be someone else's triumph, but Brit has nothing to do with this. Am I not supposed to mind? Even if that was true on her previous singles as well? I can't do it.

i wonder if this would be the right time for them to resurrect that DFA-produced Britney track that leaked a few years ago - it's still excellent, and would fit right next to "Gimme More".

hahahaha Amount of effort now dictates the grebtness of a track. It's POP, dude, ultimately it doesn't matter who/what/why/how it was produced, only the end product.
