So, the single's being re-released on it's 30th birthday, and the NME is staging a download campaign to get it to number one, and David Cameron is using the slogan to up his credibility by one.

Mark G, Friday, 31 August 2007 09:57 (eighteen years ago)

If Cameron had used "I'm a Lazy Sod" as a slogan I might have sat up and taken notice.

Tom D., Friday, 31 August 2007 09:59 (eighteen years ago)

And still its meaning is elusive. The post-Enlightenment anarchists - who believed reasonable people could solve conflicts without the need for an interfering state - share little with Johnny Rotten's "I am an antichrist" or with David Cameron's proposed curbs on video games.

The team managing the Sex Pistols was counting on cruder associations, of anarchists not as collectivists but as nihilists, troublemakers - even terrorists - and the shock tactics eventually worked.

Still time for Ken Livingstone to use "Belsen Was a Gas" as campaign slogan...

Tom D., Friday, 31 August 2007 10:18 (eighteen years ago)

At the end of last year, former Young One Adrian Edmonson joined Jools Holland's supper club orchestra to perform a big band version

This was actually awesome, I saw it on YT just after it was broadcast.

Trayce, Friday, 31 August 2007 10:23 (eighteen years ago)

Uh, its 30th birthday was last year!

CHALLENGING VIEWS

Dingbod Kesterson, Friday, 1 August 2008 13:01 (seventeen years ago)

He's more like a tonic or corrective force, saying simple, obvious, straightforward things that few people with his level of fame have the nerve to say. I wish though that he and Wobble would get back together and make some music.

Not really, these days he's just James Whale with a carrot on top.

If anyone's working on a film of his life, I think Martin Short ought to get the part.

clemenza, Monday, 25 March 2019 03:12 (seven years ago)

Golly gosh a formerly thin person is now fat, what a surprise, everyone here get in line.

everything, Monday, 25 March 2019 03:28 (seven years ago)

I was kind of focussed more on the face/expression--Martin Short is not a notably large person, I don't think.

clemenza, Monday, 25 March 2019 04:04 (seven years ago)

if you have a job in entertainment where you get paid to maintain certain ~styles~, it is more surprising methinks.

looking like a carved neep is pretty punk tho imo.

Hunt3r, Monday, 25 March 2019 04:18 (seven years ago)

It kind of hurts to know that some people only know Martin Short via Jimmy Glick

brimstead, Monday, 25 March 2019 04:31 (seven years ago)

Looks like he’s waiting for his clothes to dry at a laundromat.

Sam Weller, Monday, 25 March 2019 07:22 (seven years ago)

I only know Martin Short from The Three Amigos, ditto Chevy Chase

mfktz (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Monday, 25 March 2019 08:10 (seven years ago)

We already did this - JR said it was/is a thyroid problem

Mark G, Monday, 25 March 2019 08:18 (seven years ago)

That was my first thought, something like that.

Sam Weller, Monday, 25 March 2019 08:29 (seven years ago)

If I'd known there was a medical condition involved, I would not have posted the picture. Again, I saw Martin Short (maybe I was I thinking about Jimmy Glick, I don't know--Martin Short still means SCTV to me) in his face, and the sad expression killed me. It's a little odd (and heartening, I guess) seeing pushback against perceived meanness to John Lydon.

clemenza, Monday, 25 March 2019 11:20 (seven years ago)

nah clemeza, you're fine, I was talking about "everything" thinking you posted it because he's fat

brimstead, Monday, 25 March 2019 22:43 (seven years ago)

Apologies, I was reacting to the numerous media stories about how fat he is that have appeared over the past couple of years, rather than Clemenza's post.
