Lily Allen: this next summer's biggest hit

Doctor Casino, Sunday, 2 September 2007 07:56 (seventeen years ago)

Nothing against her of course! I'd totally vote for her if it were LDN, but Smile, not quite as competitive with this group. I do think it's an interesting barometer of how these things play out: the ILX thread was started last April, Lily in fact did not become the summer's biggest hit, but (perhaps as some sort of contract rider?) she gets her NOW song thirteen months later.

Incidentally, I find it a lot harder to vote the closer these get to the present day - for example, I have a feeling in a few years I'd be really stoked to hear "Irreplaceable" in my head again, it's a fucking monster of a song, but it was also a monster of a hit (ten weeks at #1!) and it's only been six months since it was the song that woke me up every. single. day. of. the. week. Another disadvantage: I can clearly recall the songs that SHOULD be on here, specifically "Go Getta." I suppose I can also be grateful that the disc is spared Ludacris's horrible "Runaway Love" which I also recall as being inescapable around this time....

Promise

groovemaaan, Sunday, 2 September 2007 11:10 (seventeen years ago)

Promise or You, went with You cuz I listen to the R. Kelly remix of Promise more than the original.

da croupier, Sunday, 2 September 2007 12:58 (seventeen years ago)

"Irreplaceable," but I could easily have voted for "Promise" (even though Lil Wayne's version rules), "My Love," or Fergie.

Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Sunday, 2 September 2007 13:22 (seventeen years ago)

As usual, I guess I'll be the only one voting the song I pick...Fergalicious. Great song, and it completely changed my mind about Fergie.

probably justin but these have taught me that i have more love for all american rejects than is probably healthy or deserving. also, that hellogoodbye song is good.

These are all monsters:
Nelly Furtado: "Say It Right"
Beyoncé : "Irreplacable"
Justin Timberlake featuring T.I. : "My Love"
Lloyd featuring Lil Wayne : "You"
Ciara : "Promise"

I'm leaning towards "Promise," with "My Love" and "You" close behind...need a day or two to think about it.
