Hall Of Mirrors / Spiralling Into Infinity (Version 2)

Due to remixing/sampling/covers and bootlegs we may disdain the original version of a song. Through time the new version may become the one that is remembered, though the record companies may do timely reissues of the original. Who will cover 'Evergreen' next? What song do you have the most versions of by different people and which is best? Do you look forward to Frances Farmer Kokobane releasing her ragga version of Skee-Lo/The Breeders 'I Wish'?

Amazing Grace by the Faces, Glen Campbell, Aretha, Al Green, Merle Haggard, the Holmes Brothers, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Willie Nelson, Charlie Rich, Jonathan Richman, the Soul Stirrers, Tammy Wynette, Calypso Rose and Destiny's Child. 14: the Faces beat Aretha to be my favourite.

I have Summertime by Booker T & the MGs, Sam Cooke, Al Green, Billie Holiday, Paul Robeson, the Drifters, Sarah Vaughan, John Fay, Billy Stewart, the Walker Brothers, Ohio Players and MFSB. Twelve versions - the MFSB is my fave.

White Christmas by the Drifters, the Blue Hawaians, Bing Crosby, the Four Lovers, the Golden Gate Jubilee Quartet, Darlene Love, Otis, Sinatra, Stiff Little Fingers, the Supremes, and kitty Wells. 11, and the first is my favourite BY MILES.

I have Smokey's My Girl by him, the Temptations, Otis, Al Green, Dolly Parton, the Neville Brothers, Donnie Elbert, Eddie Floyd, the Mamas & Papas and Riff - that's ten acts. The first two are best.

C.C. Rider by Jerry Lee Lewis, Ray Charles, John Lee Hooker, Leadbelly, Esther Phillips, Charlie Rich, Chuck Willis, Jimmy Witherspoon and Ma Rainey - 9, of which I like the first best.

Georgia On My Mind by Ray Charles, Willie Nelson, James Brown, Billie Holiday, Tom Jones, Ella Fitzgerald, Gladys Knight, Jerry Lee Lewis and Louis Prima. Nine. The first two are my faves.

Stormy Weather by Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, Etta James, Willie Nelson, Phil Phillips, Diana Ross, Frank Sinatra, the Spaniels and Art Tatum - 9, of which I like the last best.

Dancing In The Street by Martha And he Vandellas, Gary Glitter, Linda Jones, Ramsey Lewis, the Mamas & Papas, Little Richard, the Walker Brothers, Kim Weston and the Who - 9, with the original holding off Little Richard.

I Can't Stop Loving You by Solomon Burke, Ray Charles, Calypso Rose, Don Gibson, Elmore James, Tom Jones, Jerry Lee Lewis, Van Morrison and Roy Orbison - 9. Solomon is my favourite.

Stormy Monday by Bobby Bland, Elmore James, T-Bone Walker, Van Morrison, Chuck Brown, Lou Rawls, Big Joe Turner, Isaac Hayes, Donald Hines - 9 again. The first two are astonishingly great.

I think that's it for 9 or more acts on one song in my collection. Personally, I love covers. Can't get enough of them.
