Completely classic. I've got pretty much every single one of their records and they're all great, but the last album (100 Broken Windows) is stunning. Like everything you know REM used to be capable of..

Hm, wouldn't have you pegged for an Idlewild fan, Jim. My ex lurved them and that's how I ended up hearing them -- and they were good fun. I mean, much better them than Travis, say.

Interviewed Roddy Woomble once via phone -- *very* friendly guy, relaxed and cool, good interview, sounded surprised people would ever want to talk to him!

Well, having seen them...

Classic. Diamonds. Brilliant. Can't wait for the new album.

Yes, classic, in a strange way because they seem very popular with the youngsters and they shouldn't really be good but.......they are.

An old friend of mine's sister married some Scottish dude named Phil who said he was the original bassist for the band Idlewild and he played me a 7" that sounded pretty good at the time. This can't be the same band?

They were pretty lofi/thrashy when they started - the first two 7" singles are quite rough..

Kris loves Britpop! Well, maybe not.

To say that the early stuff sounded like "A Flight of stairs falling on a flight of stairs", as one journalist did, would be no exggeration. They rocked hard, but man did they suck. Have 100 Broken Windows and its a VAST improvement, but is still far from classic. Was persuaded to buy it after seeing their storming set at the Witnness Festival in Ireland - they truly are a storming live act. Was hoping they'd make the step up to greatness with their new one, but the new single does not bode well. Fingers crossed, all the same.

Ah classic, expecially the more recent stuff, my faveourite song would be Meet My At The Harbour and the second album is the better of the two (3 if you inculde captain). The new one looks promising enough. patti smiths guitarist was working with them
