What's the Most Times you have seen any particular band?

I followed Phish on tour, which was just over 20 shows. However, I used to go see the All Mighty Senators play every other weekend in Baltimore. I'm guessing that was up to 50 times.

There are a couple of bands that I've followed, ended up becoming friends with, and seen more than 20 times, but less than 50. Where should that vote go?

Up to fifty.

I think I've seen Hawkwind 5 times, and that's the most. Actually now that I think about it, it's 8 times, but I voted five, argh.

I mean, I've seen The Gossip about 20 times TOO MANY fnar, but you said that doesn't count. ;-)

That would be R.E.M. 1980-1982 around Athens ... hard to say exactly but up to 20 is a safe guess.

Completely lost count of how many Brave Combo shows I've attended since 1980 or so, but up to 50 covers it. Best dance band on the planet.

Damn, already voted and forgot my friends/former roommates who started out as just a band I liked. I've seen them 50-100 times across the country. Next highest would be 16-18 and 13 for each artist respectively.

Seen Shonen Knife, Iggy Pop, Sun Ra and Sonny Sharrock twice apiece (the latter two on consecutive nights), and that's it. No other act more than once.

Ooh, I saw Shonen Knife twice! Once at the Old Trout, Windsor, and once at Reading Festival.

Sleater-Kinney somewhere between 15-20 times. I talked to Carrie Brownstein one time and told her how many times I had seen her and she gave me a look like, "What a loser."

I've seen a handful of touring bands between 10 and 20 times, but there are probably a few local acts I've seen roughly 20 or more times now, although going straight from 20 to "up to fifty" seems like kind of a big leap.

Oh you sad sack. Oops, actually, I mean, the sad sack would be me. I have followed a band on tour. Across borders. Looking back, especially after my friend who joined me on these excursions said one of the members actually waved at him and also gave him a free single, I just hang my head in shame. I mean, what the fuck was I thinking? I figured they'd not recognize me. But after attending more than a dozen of their shows, how could they not, especially as I travelled in a pack of sad sacks. ;-)I'm half joking. I know that some of you will think I'm bonkers for only attending a gig because of this band (as opening band)and walking out after Pere Ubu started playing.

I probably saw dEUS up to ten times, but I can't really recall the gigs *seperately*. It's all a blur.

I think I've seen Shellac 6 times, maybe 7.

I've seen Sonic Youth six times, but I'm sure I've seen the Fake Fictions at least a dozen times.

I originally did not mention the bands b/c I phear ILM smackdown but since so many others mention sad-sackiness I will now: Asylum Street Spankers (50+); Elliott Smith (16-18); and the Beastie Boys (13 or so)

If you would ask, how many times have you seen Rudy Trouve (of dEUS, Kiss My Jazz, Gore Slut, Dead Man Ray), then, well, probably up to 50 times if not more.

I am not even thinking about the amount of bands I have seen around 5 times. *sigh*

Nath, of those bands I've only heard of dEUS (b/c you talk about them). I've never actually heard any of them! (Or bands like Shellac). I am not ILM material, clearly.

The bands I've seen most often, I've seen between 10 & 20 times. Mostly friend-bands & a few long-running locals I've liked a lot. Haven't seen any larger out of town acts more than 5-10 times.

Shellac's Albini. Saw'em.

All the bands I mentioned are connected in some way to dEUS, so you could say more or less local bands. If you like, I can make you a mix zip. :-)

well yeah, but I think I'd be able to pinpoint whether the number tops out at 22 or 47, which is why the 20-50 gap is annoying.

They sound metal Nath. Are they? Things that are krautrock-y or have cookie monster vocals scare me.

I never saw any band more than about 10-12 times, because a) I never thought any British bands were worth seeing that much (this is in the 80s-90s when I went to more gigs), and b) seeing the same bands time after time gets boring. Anyway, I think it's a tie between God (the Kevin Martin one), Swans and, er, IQ.

The Damned would be way out in front. I've said "Up to fifty" but it could be more than that.

Killing Joke also definitely more than 20.

Comparing their history of the band with my memory it seems I must have seen one or other incarnation of The Shrinking Men on more than a dozen occasions, and (as you'll see from my review of their single if you scour their website "They were never my favourite local band".

I certainly reckon I saw Johnny & The Moondogs more than I did Shrinking Men, and A Fast Crowd / A1 Vegetables probably more again (must be over the 20 mark by now); and I'm sure I must have seen Between Pictures, General Accident and The K9's / Gene Creemer & The Bunkbeds more than any of them.

Wish I'd seen Brave Combo 50 times. What a great, great band. Wanted 'em to play at my wedding. They do plenty of them but the price was out of my range.

Lived in Austin mid-80s and saw Zeitgeist/Reivers and Glass Eye more than 50 times each for sure. Probably saw every True Believers gig during that time too, easily 25 times. Except for those 3 years I've lived in Atlanta since '78 and have seen the Swimming Pool Qs countless times.

Cool you saw Glass Eye as many times as you did. Unique and very underappreciated band.

Had a gig with an indie distributor, had the WATS line and the postage expenses paid so I decided I'd try to book Zeitgeist and Glass Eye into some rooms in the midwest and northeast on the company dime (Doug, hope you don't read this board). After that experience I tell everybody I'm sure that Mother Teresa was visited by an angel when she was young and told she could spend her life in the gutters of Calcutta ministering to the filthy and forgotten...or she could book indie rock bands.

Glass Eye were brilliant. Never get tired of hearing them.

I may have seen one of those Glass Eye gigs at 7th Street Entry. They warmed up the first time I saw Stereolab ('93?) and it was such a great night.

I've seen Motorhead, Lacuna Coil, Shadows Fall, Killswitch Engage, and In Flames between five and 10 times each, easy. So, that one. I've found that bands start to lose their luster after five or so concerts.

(Not that they're bad or anything, it just goes from "Awesome! Motorhead!" to "hey, Motorhead again.")

I have friends who play in long running local garage bands. I honestly couldn't say how often I've seen them perform live over the last 20+ years. Luster is not a problem as yet.

I don't know, Lemmy just doesn't seem as shiny anymore.

I've seen Stereolab around 10 times. I've also seen The Fringe play at the Lizard Lounge in Cambridge many, many times, but they play there every Monday night (at least I think they still do), so it doesn't take much effort.
