Lisa Loeb & Nine Stories, "Stay (I Missed You)"

Isn't this song about a girl who thought she could live without a guy, but now she realizes she can't? Not a tune that's support the themes of Lilith Fair, I think.

Tuomas, Friday, 7 September 2007 06:23 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, some of these are completely wtf in terms of their picks once they selected the right artist. But setting that aside, this is really hard! I would rate these pretty good if not always thematically appropriate:

Ani Difranco, "32 Flavors"
Suzanne Vega, "Luka"
Indigo Girls, "Closer to Fine"
Fiona Apple, "Criminal"
Alanis Morissette, "You Learn"
Sheryl Crow, "Soak Up The Sun"
Tracy Chapman, "Fast Car"
Nelly Furtado, "I'm Like A Bird"

Ruling out the Ani and IG songs which I kind of burnt out on at a certain point in my late teens, and the ones I don't know THAT well.... ah, hell, it's "You Learn," I always fucking loved that one.

"The fii-yer trucks are...COMIN' UP AROUND THE BAYEND!"

the emmylou and pretenders tracks don't belong here, different era/genre

gershy, Friday, 7 September 2007 06:28 (eighteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Nothing I really hate here. "Middle Of The Road" is my fave but I agree with gershy - it's misplaced. So, Indigo Girls it is.

I picked the Shawn Colvin song because I doubt anyone else here has heard it

gabbneb, Thursday, 13 September 2007 05:57 (eighteen years ago)

I'm shocked, but that's a very listenable set of songs. Destroy that Paula Cole song though, and maybe Paula Cole while you're at it.
