So Tim, if rock's not inherently rockist, why not purism (or something else) instead of rockism? (Sorry I haven't read all those other threads.)

Rockism is an attitude towards music (typically by critics, typically alleged by other critics at least originally when the terms were used in the mid 80s).

However the term its self has dated badly in the 20 odd years it has been slung about, becoming too generalized to have any practical use in understanding musical attitudes.

Music itself isn't rockist, though some music seems to be designed to appeal to rockists and is made by people who have rockist attitudes so a short hand way of saying this is that the music itself is rockist.

Ironically, this requires making objective assessments on the music's intentionality, a quality that detractors of rockism claim is not relevant.

Guys, seriously.

Just asking. But my own take is pretty close to Sandy Blair's post above. So that's why the question, which is indeed as absurd as "Is all zydeco zydecist?" (and yeah, I've read Sanneh's article)(and enough of the threads to see that rockism, as the ultimate all-purpose putdown[as in politically correct] still lives in the hearts, if not the brains, of many dedicated antirockists [as in anticommunists etc]) But if somebody wants to lock it or turn it into a picture thread, that's fine.
